What does your Username mean ?
Everyone creates a username when they join PC (or most other sites). Sometimes a great deal of thought goes into it and users are forever know by their creations. I created this post to give everyone an opportunity to explain how they became their alter egos. I'll start with mine - I'm old (most of you know that) and the music of the 60's defined the era I lived in. Among the artists I grew to love was Frank Zappa - either as a solo artist or with the Mothers of Invention. My username comes from his 1979 album Sheik Yerbouti. I'll let you in on a secret, when I created my username I screwed up and used a "d" instead of a "t" in Yerbouti. So, yeah, I'm Sheikyerboudi, or The Sheik.

Due to that "t"/"d" mistake, I had absolutely no idea at all that your username was a Zappa reference.

My name came from 2 places. Real name is James Smith so you can see why I created another one. Griddy comes from the work I did. Like Sheik, I am old so I am retired. I was a union carpenter in CT. Doing Drywall, metal stud framing and became proficient at drop ceilings. They call the 2'x4' and 2'x2' metal framing grid.
So Jim Grid. The Griddy was then added as I had a rap I did called the Real Jim Griddy spoofing The Real Slim Shady. So I might be old but I know me some Eminem.

I am almost done with a 34 yr career in education and an over 40 year career in coaching. When I was just starting out I was coaching football at a high school and working as a campus supervisor getting sub teacher pay since the district didn't have any openings in teaching. This involved me initialing a lot of passes. My initials are PP which creates opportunities for students to have fun with, so I added my middle initial A into the mix and initialed passes PAP. It didn't take long for the football players to pick up on that and start calling my Coach Pappy. It stuck and people still use it today, 35 years later including 3 players I coached that made it to the NFL.

I love these !! Always wondered about jimgriddy, now I know. And just like Indiana Jones, Gus is named after his dog !!

I wasn't going to explain mine here, but, since The Sheik was so impressed by Gus being named after a dog (I always thought it was a goose!), I guess I will let everyone know that my username, too, comes from a long ago pet. Not a dog, though.

Much like sheikyerboudi, the music, ideals, and college student lifestyle of the '60s defined the era in which I came of age. In addition to The Beatles, of course, I was (and still am) a huge fan of The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, and Strawberry Alarm Clock. I strongly identified with movies like "The Graduate" and "Easy Rider."

After I finished high school, I spent a year in a post secondary program in Israel.
My Rabbi insisted on calling me by my Hebrew name. I agreed as long as he used both of my names. When you put them together it can be a mouthful. So he used to call me A.Y. for short.
When it came time to pick a user name for my online presence, eh = A, a tribute to my Canadian Roots and why = Y just seemed like a natural fit for a university student.

Mine is just my name and DOB ahah but these were a riot to read! On other platforms I am 'MahoganyMatt' because I grew up working in a casket warehouse/showroom and NEVER dented ANYTHING...I was good to the wood, and rewarded with the alliterative 'MahoganyMatt' which I use to this day around places.

Man, these are great. I'm a little embarrassed. I joined during the pandemic when I thought we'd never have live sports again, and needed a fantasy (adjacent) sport to pass the time. I had to come up with a username on the spot, and I'm sure you all recall the weirdness and isolation of early 2020, so I made the great (and irreversible) decision to go with a sophomoric genital pun. It was Glans Gruber or Glans Christian Anderson, and the Die Hard reference won out.

I love reading these, especially usernames I recognize being in custom leagues with! My username is so boring, it's literally just the username my high school gave me to login and I stuck with it through college because it's easy for me to remember. I wish I would've taken some time to have a more creative name, but when I joined I didn't know how great of a game this would be!
It's ironic because I usually take the time to name my auto-league teams with creative puns yet my username is just some boring letters and numbers haha.

Not Chicago, Spiegel. When in college we used to watch Dark Shadows in the student union. Bob Barker's The Price is Right was on before DS. I would show up a few minutes early, just in time to see the final prize bonanza. Everything came from Spiegel and their 60609 zip code was repeated so often that it has stuck in my head for more than 55 years.

Mine I created to honor my grandson who tragically died due ro care giver abuse. I used to call him little Magoo because he was still a blad headed little Magoo. We started a foundation to honor his memory. its been 2 1/2 years now that he was taken from us and still the individual responsible has not gone to trial. I'm a Jr. High Spanish teacher. My last name is Allred, so my students often call me "Todorojo" - which is a literal translation of my last name. My unpublished autobiography, filled with anecdotes from 30 years of teaching experience, is titled "Todorojo - Medio Loco" (Allred - Half Crazy). I figure that a good Jr. High teacher has to be half crazy or he would have escaped the madness after a few years.

I'm from Lynn, Mass, it was the Original Sin City back in the day, and Marauders was the name of my Dart team that won the state championship back in 1995

My older brother was "Ave" so when I visited him at college, one of his friends dubbed me "Baby Ave." That person was wearing an empty 12-pack holder on his head and later in my teaching career, he became my assistant principal.
When I chose an e-mail years ago, there apparently was another babyave, hence the "1."

What a small world it is sometimes - back in 1973 I lived in Leominster, Mass - within spitting distance of Lynn. And Todorojo - I knew that was a translation of your last name, but I didn't realize you were a Spanish teacher !! I took "Conversational Spanish" in Jr. High and didn't learn any Spanish until I dated a Mexican girl in the late '70's in Whittier, Ca. Most of what I learned could not be repeated in polite company - but when we would go across the border, I could order drinks at least " Una cerveza más, por favor!"

Small world indeed , from 71-73 my stepfather was in the USAF and we lived in Worcester . His last name was Champagne and he formally adopted me . In high school I had a teacher who called me Mr . bubbles but it was not after the bath product but the drink . Even though I was only 4 , I still remember watching Bobby Orr score his flying goal . Unfortunately , I've had people repeat that song to me for years , it's almost as bad as the cars for kids jingle .

Not just Lynn Gus, Salem, Beverly, Saugus, Revere, Marblehead, Peabody and Nahant had teams in our Division,

As a guy who played darts at a high level, I can tell you that some people have incredible eye-hand coordination and practice, a LOT. It's far more than a bar room game.

In Phily, we only play Lawn Darts...and we play it with a winner takes all attitude you would expect of us.

Sorta in synch with Followtheson but being a '60s kinda guy, I originally considered using the spiritual username of Sitwiththeguru ("Sit with the Guru") as a tribute to The Strawberry Alarm Clock's 1968 psychedelic hit single (charted at #65) with the same title:

However, after further reflection, I decided any reference to this song and my proposed spiritual username would probably be relatively obscure, at best, to any PC member born after roughly 1958.
Incidentally, as you can hear for yourself in the YouTube video, Alarm Clock drummer Gene Gunnels' syncopation, time signatures, and melodic fills have probably never been favorably compared to those of Ringo Starr, John Bonham, or Keith Moon. ;-)
