Who do you like this year ?

Who do you like this year ?

While the Dodgers are still favorites, you have to love what the Padres are doing. Landing Snell makes them a contender.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

The cubs era is over... :(

Re: Who do you like this year ?

looks like mlb network will have a lot of Padres/Dodgers late night here on east coast.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

Padres rotation , Snell , Darvish , Davies , Liment and Paddack . I also think Whitesox could be surprising because they have one of the best baseball minds of all time inLarussa

Re: Who do you like this year ?

Darvish is a hit or miss, last year was pretty much his best year and Davies went to the Cubs in the trade, but it's a start we haven't had a good staff in years. Just sucks Clevinger went down.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

honestly, I think the Padres are a bit overrated. we haven't seen more than 84 games out of Tatis and he hit just 270 this year his OPS was carried by a hot start and then he went ice cold. Myers won't repeat, Snell is hit or miss, Paddack, as we've seen, is hit or miss, Darvish is hit or miss. there are just so many question marks for the Padres. Will the bullpen hold up? can Austin Nola do well? (They traded Mejia to the Rays, so they don't have a great backup) What prospects do you have left? Will Tatis hit above 280 this year? What is the condition of Tommy Pham's health? Trent Grisham isn't a great player and didn't deserve the gold glove. They don't have a first baseman that can play every day since Moreland can't hit righties, and Jake Cronenworth has awful defense and will come down to earth. We saw them get absolutely flattened by the Dodgers in the NLDS and they barely squeaked by in the Wild Card Series. Name one player on that offense, besides Machado, who is a proven star. The Padres dumped their farm for an aging starter and another starter who has had one good year. But everyone is SO hyped for an unproven team.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

I really like the Braves and they are definitely better than the Padres. all of the players on the padres are so unpredictable, and while ill admit, they still have a lot of farm left, they aren't that good. and c'mon, it's the padres. they'll still find ways to lose

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

If Snell continues to be injury prone, it won't matter much. And you can never tell which Machado is going to show up. If Tatis puts it all together, he'll be one scary dude !! The Dodgers are so deep in talent - Kershaw and Bueller go down with injuries and, damn, I guess we'll have to use May and Urias !! They aren't a bunch of aging veterens either - they have worked hard the last few years to get rid of some bad contracts (remember Carl Crawford?) so they could sign a guy like Betts. Sorry Padres, everything will have to go right for you and wrong for the Dodgers for you to take the division. And the Dodgers haven't made their moves yet.......

Re: Who do you like this year ?

yeah, and once we sign Bauer and trade for Arenado, we'll be fine

Re: Who do you like this year ?

"Sorry Padres, everything will have to go right for you and wrong for the Dodgers for you to take the division." seems like a drastic underselling of a team that looks top-5 on paper. The Padres aren't better, but that characterization just feels wrong on all levels.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

nah, the Padres, on paper are NOT a top 5 team

Re: Who do you like this year ?

its

1. Dodgers

2. Yankees

3. Braves

4. A's

5. Rays

Re: Who do you like this year ?

very bold claim, dandy, for a team that is 2nd in projected 2021 WAR

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

Like I say every year before my fantasy draft, " just give me a list of all the injuries and their lengths, that are going to happen over the course of the season, and I'll pick you a winner"

Re: Who do you like this year ?

thats projected sir. and most of their hitters won't repeat. Grisham? no. Myers? no. Hosmer? no. Nola? MAYBE. Pham was stabbed 1,000 times. Lamet? yes. Machado? maybe. Tatis? yes, he will repeat a 270 avg season. Clev isn't playing. Snell is very unpredictable. Darvish is very unpredictable. they traded davies. the bullpen was never good and now they are losing yates and rosenthal. they were absolutely flattened by the dodgers in the NLDS. Half of the players on their team were very lucky in 60 games. just stop overrating them so hard guys.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

Dandy, I appreciate the optimism, but I don't see the Yankees at number 2. They have little to no starting pitching depth, the bullpen isn't exactly getting deeper, and the lineup is way to boom or bust. Most of these problems have existed for a few years now, which I think is why they can't get over the hump in the playoffs. Maybe they'll prove me wrong but I have seen it too many times to believe the Yankees will be more than a frontrunner in the AL East, and then fizzle out in the playoffs.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

its

1. Dodgers

2. Yankees

3. Braves

4. A's

5. Rays

Yankees are too high, A's are too high, Rays are too high (no Snell or Morton and they won't spend). White Sox, Nationals, Padres, and maybe the Mets and Blue Jays have a chance to be in the top five depending on free agency. NL East could have 3 great teams this year.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

there's nothing but down for the Nats. they have 2 good hitters and one good pitcher(Scherzer has fallen off immensely.) again, the padres are not that great. The A's are a top 5 team, they are just criminally underrated. you are right about the Yankees though. I don't think they are that good looking at the team. Judge is always hurt. Stanton is always hurt. and they have no pitching. The Rays are still a top 5 team because they could afford to get rid of snell and Morton. they still have Glasnow, Yarbrough, Chirinos is coming back, Fleming and Fairbanks. that's why they gave up Snell and Morton and got some good talent for Snell and a pick for Morton if I'm not mistaken. Yankees are still top 5 tho

Re: Who do you like this year ?

As i said earlier ,Tony L will be a difference for the White Sox

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

run4fun, you are ridiculous if you think the Jays are a top 5 team in baseball. the Yankees are better. The Padres don't have the consistency and truly have one all-star hitter on the team and one all-star pitcher. (not to mention one of the worst bullpens in baseball since they lost Yates and Rosenthal). they are not that good. people just really want the Dodgers to be de-throned for some reason. I guess they hate us because they ain't us. nonetheless, the white sox are also not a top 5 team yet, they just don't have a good bullpen, and the rotation, outside of Lynn and Gio, isn't great. same thing with the Jays. outside of Ryu, they have no one. The offense on a team can only get you so far. We saw that with the Padres playing the Dodgers in the NLDS when they were absolutely destroyed.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

Dandy, if you, someone who is citing batting average, want to tell Mike Petriello, someone who is featured on ESPN's Statcast broadcasts, that he and the numbers are overrating the Padres, be my guest. I won't stop you.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

Their OPS was carried by the first half and a 60 game season

Re: Who do you like this year ?

Dandy got one thing right, fans of 29 other teams want the Dodgers to be dethroned.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

'The offense on a team can only get you so far.'

Sounds exactly like the Yankees, a team you note as top 5. By your own logic being used there, I wouldn't discredit the Blue Jays from being a contender, as the Yankees have similar issues. They've been a top 5 team for years now, and haven't proved that to be true, with nothing to show for it. They just can't stay healthy, and don't have pitching depth at the moment. I'd say the AL East as a whole lacks pitching depth, just look in Boston lol.

And dandy, a reminder that you don't have to take this so seriously, it's meant to be a friendly discussion. Other people can have their opinions for a reason, you don't have to slam them because you disagree. Thank you

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

the yankees have pitching dude. Cole, Severino, Paxton, Tanaka. that's a pretty good 4 bud. your blinded by your hate for the Yankees.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

and i haven't slammed anyone. Why can't I have my own opinion in this "friendly discussion"

Re: Who do you like this year ?

Yankees don't have Tanaka and Paxton. They're free agents

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

You called Run4fun, and me by association, ridiculous for thinking the Jays could be a top 5 team. I disagreed with a lot of what you said, but I didn't call you names when I did it... I think that is the point that was trying to be made there.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

no, i said saying that the jays are a top 5 team, it's ridiculous. and if ridiculous is the biggest "insult", you need to sort yourself out

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

"you are ridiculous if you think the Jays are a top 5 team in baseball" Your words, not mine. And believe me, I have been called worse, and you don't bother me one bit. Just pointing out that you are being the least civil person on the thread, and you can't figure out why you were getting called out for it.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

you do realize that dandychiggins is a child , he once posted that he cant help but be immature because of his age, that pretty much says it all right there. age and immaturity are 2 seperate things

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

I'm not arguing with him, just explaining to him why he got called out because he couldn't figure it out.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

he is a child ignore him

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

Children need guidance, otherwise, you get irresponsible, unproductive adults.

Re: Re: Who do you like this year ?

I'm not saying you can't have your own opinion. Not even close. It is, in fact, quite the opposite actually, you're forcing your opinion over others that are here and trying to say why your opinion is better in more of a conflictive manner. You believe you're right, cool. Don't put down others for what they think if they don't agree with you, and then feel like your opinion is the one being put down when you get called out.

This entire thread is just opinions anyway, a lot will change once the off-season is done and FA are signed. Yankees have Cole and Severino (when he's healthy) but I don't doubt they'll spend to get other guys. Me hating the Yankees has nothing to do with it.

Re: Who do you like this year ?

If nothing else, I can at least see the Blue Jays being more of a dark horse candidate for playoff contention, but only if they can improve their pitching staff quite a bit, especially their rotation. But don't forget that 2020 is looking pretty strong for FAs, so I definitely am not counting them out because I can see a eventful off-season for them (and I can even see this potentially being the case for plenty of other teams as well...)

And this is a NYY fan saying this, so while of course I do hope the Yanks go all the way to October, same as literally EVERY other Yanks fan that has been in existence during the 70+ years, but I do agree with this: I also think there's far too many holes on our roster, particularly in our rotation, to be able to legitimately claim to be one of the top 5 teams in the majors
