League Rules

Welcome to the rules for this league.

1. Commish: Spaniels. Vice Commish: ConnieMack

2. There will be all-stars in this league - selected at game 90. 3 days off granted to acknowledge the benchmark.

3. Players subject to injuries and fatigue.

4. Slump busters will be in effect.

5. Roster Size will be 26/15

6. Player pool will be 1876 to 2021 - Peaks at 29, declines at 34, retires at 40

7. The league schedule will be reminiscent of ye olden days of baseball yore where the two leagues only met in the World Series. The NL will only play NL teams during the regular season. Likewise, in the AL.

8. Trade deadline: You may trade players up to the 121st day of the season. The free agent pool will be open for drops and adds throughout the season and off-season except when the slow draft is on.

9. The Commish wont be the arbiter of trades unless 3 owners complain via message about what is viewed as a bad trade. I will then put up a poll for the population to vote to uphold or cancel the trade.

10. We will have a 3 round live draft. Owners are encouraged to pre-rank to avoid disappointment, Draft picks can be traded but only for the next player draft. Owners are asked to inform Commish of trades involving draft picks. Draft order is worst to first, one way with no accommodation for playoff results.

10.1 Rules amendment: If in season 2033, it is decided that the league keeps with the minor league season into 2034, the rookie draft will be two rounds with both the MLB and MiLB team having two picks each. In effect, the owner will have 4 draft picks at their disposal. The draft order will be based on end of season Power ranking. Traded picks can be either from MLB or MilB teams - to either MLB or MilB teams.

11. Position changes will be not be allowed for SP to RP. Position players can be switched only to their secondary position. If a position player has a secondary position as IF or UT, the owner is requested to make a case based on historical reality. Position change requests can only be made during the off-season. There is no limit to position changes.

12. Franchise Players.
- each team starts with 5 franchise players
-franchise players can stay with team until retirement at 40
-you can trade franchise players and have more than 5 via trade with competing owners (if traded during season, team would have to wait until off-season to request a replacement franchise player)
-please do not drop a franchise player; they can be traded or deleted (request to Commish) - 1 delete per off-season
- a deleted franchise player can be requested two seasons later
-replacing an existing franchise player: you can request to delete an existing franchise player and request a new franchise player not in league presently - only if you have less than 5 franchise players. New franchise players must have played for your team for the stat line requested and will come in at age 20. One franchise player change per off-season per team. If you delete a franchise player, you can?t immediately request that same player back - rule is to wait two seasons before requesting a same player
-no more duplicate players; existing players can remain. teams are responsible for checking that player is not already in league pool of players

RULE AMMENDMENT: choosing a replacement Franchise player: 300ab, 100ip for starters and 30ip for rp. and if franchise player was a sp but started as a rp...we go with overall historical precedence.

Rule clarification : a franchise player can only be requested if you trade one and you have less than 5 . (Or, of course, you wish to have a FP dropped and replaced)

New owner privilege allows an owner to request two new Franchise players during the off-season of their joining.

13. Franchise Player Ageing: Your franchise players will be yours until you trade them or drop them or when they are forced to retire at 40. They will progress like any other players.

14. Duplicate players will be phased out. The first season allowed them but going forward, no more duplicate players. I do not want to see Babe Ruth 1923 on one team hitting a fly ball to Babe Ruth 1929.

15. Regular season sims: The sims will be owner actioned every 4 hours.

16. We will use a 5 man rotations.

17. All players to have C progression with peak at 29, decline at 34 and retire at 40.

18. No contracts. No free agent bidding. Players can remain on your team until the end of time or age 40. The only limit is roster numbers. Teams are not allowed to exceed roster limits during regular and playoff sims. Teams can exceed roster numbers during off-season but must drop or trade before first pitch, Opening Day. Failure to do so, will result in forfeiture of your team's first round pick in following draft.

19. All playoff series' will be best of 7 (2-3-2) format. Tiebreaker for division and wild-card (if teams are tied in won-loss) will be a one-game playoff after season end with no days off. Wildcard order tiebreaker will be head-to-head followed by run differential. Each league will have 4 wild card teams. Division winners will always be seeded 1 and 2 with 2 winning wildcard teams seeded according won-loss, head-to-head and run differential. Division winners will have a first round bye. There will be 3 games off granted before the start of the first wildcard series'. Thereafter, one game will be granted to start each series. No days off granted for travel days. In effect, 5 man rotations will be in play during the playoffs. Homefield advantage for World Series determined by winning % from regular season followed by fun differential.

Playoff format:
1st round - wildcard 1 vs wildcard 4, wildcard 2 vs wildcard 3
2nd round - top seed vs bottom seed w/c, 2nd seed vs top seeded w/c
3rd round - League Championship series'
4th round - World Series

MiLB playoff format: top 8 qualify. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5 for first round best of 3. 2nd round remaining 4 battle in best of 5; champ series best of 7.

20. There is spring training in this league. Get out the suntan lotion.

21. Award winners will be awarded at the end of the regular season. Cy Young and MVP automatically chosen by the computer.

22. Team Change: During the off-season, an owner can request to change their team to a team not in the league. The changing team will lose the franchise players from the originating team but will be able to choose 5 new Franchise Players from their new team. The changing team will be able to bring over 10 players - not including the franchise players. That will mean that the new team will have 5 new Franchise players and 10 'holdovers' making a total of 15 players. The new team will have to augment their new team via free agent pickups and/or trades.

Dec 18, 2022- rules amendment: expansion owner can pull 10 players from both their MLB and MiLB teams along with the 5 new franchise players. The players can be distributed to either MLB or MiLB as the owner sees fit using the unlimited trade facility at beginning of the season.

1st year expansion gift: after the first season, a newly minted expansion team can choose three historical players from their team. The players will come in on chosen stat line and age.

MiLB playoff format: top 8 qualify and seeded to determine match-ups. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5 for first round best of 3. 2nd round remaining 4 battle in best of 5; champ series best of 7. Same days-off policy as MLB playoff format.

Rosters: each team will keep their main roster of 26 while the 'minors' of both MLB and MiLB which consists of 3 spots will be cleared following the World Series and during player ageing and progression. Time ( a few days) will be given for teams to adjust rosters accordingly.

Award winners will be from each MLB and MiLB but separately judged.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
