League Rules
Commissioner - Twolvesfan

1. League Setup -- Based on actual major league baseball starting in 1977 and will be updated as real-life changed, including adding expansion teams, realignments, post-season structures, and locations.

2. Schedule -- The actual schedule from each year will be utilized with the exception of the strike-shortened schedules in 1994 and 1995.

3. Playoffs -- Beginning in 1994, the real-life structure will be used, with the exception that the team with the better record will have homefield advantage in the World Series.

The highest-seeded team to move on to each LCS will have homefield advantage in a 7-game series in the 2-3-2 format.

In the event of a tie, a one-game tiebreakers will take place. Home team will be the winner of the head-to-head record, then the run differential head-to-head, then the overall run differential.

One day off will be granted before each series start, and after games 2 and 5 (2 and 4 in 5-game LDS).

4. Contracts: Max contract length is 10 years. Teams MAY re-sign players at the conclusion of their contract, no commish approval or action required. Maximum of 30 contract players.

Salary Cap: Set at $275 for every team.

Contracts may be bought out by paying half of the total owed, rounding up (for example, a player with $5 for 3 years = $15, round up to $16 and so $8 is owed as a buyout), over how many ever years the owner wishes so long as it is equally divisible over the years (in this example the $8 could be paid $1/8, $2/4, $4/2, or $8/1).

New owners may eliminate up to three contracts when they take over.

5. Imports & Draft: Real-life rookies will be imported each year. Batters must have 150 at-bats, and pitchers must have had 35 innings pitched. Each team will be allowed to claim one real-life rookie who actually joined their team that year. In the event a rookie played for more than one team in their import year, the team for which that rookie had either the most innings pitched or at-bats has the right of first refusal. If that team does not claim the rookie, the other team for which they played may claim them.

Unclaimed rookies will make up a 2-round rookie draft. The draft will be a slow draft with 8 hours to pick in round 1 and 4 hours in round 2.

6. Progressions: League will use random progressions. Peak is 28, regression will happen at 32.

7. Prospect tags: Players may be kept as prospects until age 26 (the tag goes away during their age-26 season) or they have 50 cumulative career innings pitched or 150 cumulative career at-bats. Post-season does not count.

8. Changing Stats Year: Owners may change their players' real stats to the new league year each year. Doing so is voluntary if the owner feels it benefits them. The deadline to change real stats year will be the trade deadline each year.

For instance, when the league year moves to 1978, an owner may change his player's real stats to that player's real-life 1978 stats, or that player's real stats may be kept at whatever stats resulted from progressions after 1977.

Owners may not select "real stats" seasons for batters with fewer than 150 ABs. If an owner selects a season where batter has fewer than 150 ABs, their real stats will be changed to a season of my choosing in which they had 150 ABs.

You may keep a player at their prior position if changing stats year would put him at a position you don’t want. For instance, Ryan Braun played 3rd in 2007. If you change his real stats in 2008 his position would be Of/Dh. You may request to switch him back to 3rd base for the 2008 season and keep his 2008 offensive stats.

9. Trades: Trades are unlimited. Draft picks can be traded up to two years in advance. If three or more owners object to a trade in the chat box the trade will be put to a vote as to whether it will stand.

Trade deadline will be approximately day 135 each year.

10. Sims -- Games will be scheduled every 5 hours during the Regular Season and user sims will be activated . During the playoffs, the user sims will be turned off and games will be scheduled when the post-season starts.

11. All Star Break: All star break will take place around day 90, with 4 days off granted.

12. Adds n' drops: Adds will be done with the waiver system based on team strength through day 25. After which free agents may be added at will. Adds and drops will be turned off after day 150 (or later starting in 1994). Adds and drops will turn off about game 150.

13. Roster size -- 25 active and up to 20 in the minors.

14. Position changes - Take place during the off-season only, unless a new owner takes over a team and needs to make adjustments. Players can have their primary and secondary positions swapped at will. A player with IF as secondary position can be swapped to 3b, SS, 2b, or 1b only. You may also switch a real-life player to his real-life position if he played that position that year. For instance, in 1992 Craig Biggio switched from catcher to 2nd. In the 1992 league season you may switch Biggio to 2nd regardless of his secondary position. Note that if you make this switch you cannot change a player back to their old primary position - for instance you could not switch Biggio to 2nd base for 5 years then switch him back to catcher.

The only way to switch a pitcher between starter and reliever is by picking their real stats year. For instance, if John Smoltz is on your team, when 2001 rolls around you may pick his real stats for 2001 when he became a reliever. You could not convert him to a reliever prior to 2001, when he first became a reliever.

15. Starting Rotation: 5-man; 4 days off after starts.

16. Injuries: Maximum of 30 days

17. Slump Buster: Maximum of 10 days

18. Fatigue: On

19. Target OBP: .330

20. Use of Pitchers' Home Runs: Yes

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
