Catcher DWAR

I understand that it is recommended that a successful team be strong defensively "up the middle" but how does a catcher's dwar affect play? I understand that a + arm limits base stealing but what are the ways that a catcher's dwar effect play?

Like any other position it's determined on getting to balls in play (including foul pop ups) and making the plays. You know, choppers in front of the plate, bunt attempts, etc.

Unless the sim has been tweaked since I last ran the numbers...

A catcher will save about 11 hits per 162 games for every plus-1 dW. Lowest impact position for dW, so not usally what people mean when they reference "up the middle defense."

That said... like every other position, a catcher with 2 or 3 dW will save 22 or 33 hits... Which can make up for some weak offense.
