Substitution question

Substitution question

In the game below after Realmuto was Pinch Hit for in the 8th inning, why wasn't my back up Catcher brought into the game?

instead a Non Catcher came in, no one reached base so it didn't matter and I won in the bottom of the 9th, but I thought the SIM always uses an actual Catcher at that Position if he is available, which he was.

And both Carey and Wisterzil can be replaced in the field I double checked

Re: Substitution question

I have a feeling the injury to your 1B messed things up. Otherwise seems clear your backup catcher should have replaced.

You had a 1B hit for catcher. Same inning, your starting 1B got hurt. So it put your 3B/IF in at 1B to replace him. When inning ended, sim moved the pinch hitting 1B to 1B which makes sense. That pushed the 3B/IF to catcher. There it either got confused and didn’t put the backup C in or it ran into the sim not wanting to use too much bench (but it really should have).

Re: Re: Substitution question

Maybe he had the flu. Or maybe his wife went into labor and he was given the rest of the day off to go be with her to witness the birth of his first child. Or maybe he was being disciplined by the manager for some insubordinate remarks made earlier in the day. I think GBacci should leave these bugs in the SIM and encourage us to use our imaginations to explain why things happen the way they do. I’m only half kidding. I actually do think it would be awesome to add some of those kinds of situations into the SIM and have them come up once in a million scenarios just to add some “Easter Egg” type treasures for us to talk about. I’d vote for that.

Re: Substitution question

It's like when the game is tied in the Bottom of the 9th, man on third, and the batter "triples"

Gotta use your imagination to say that the runner on third tripped on the way home and was crawling as fast as he could as the hitter was flying around the bases, just reaching third as the runner touched home.

Re: Re: Substitution question

Almost the same as when you have your closer come in and get the save and then he's injured for 5 games , maybe he high fived too hard ?

Re: Re: Substitution question

Or maybe he actually homered and pulled a hammy rounding second base. Crawled to third and never made it home. Never went on the injured list because he doesn't hit lefties, so he had the next day off.

Re: Substitution question

The Funny part is if it's say bottom of the 9th in a tie game with bases Loaded and the batter Triples - He gets a triple but only 1 RBI - What happened to the base runners??

Oh wait, I know they all waited right next to home plate so that he could touch 3rd before the lead runner stepped on home

Re: Re: Substitution question

Those hammy's are a ****.

Re: Substitution question

Just wanted to note, I will take a look at the code and see if I can find out what happened.

Re: Re: Substitution question

I had the same thing happen recently in case of injury (without a catcher involved). It seems the code chooses the replacement with reference to position, but then once the players are chosen pushes their positions around to fill open spots, resulting in weird outcomes. In my case I pinch-ran for an OF with a 1B/3B and had my 3B get injured in the same inning. The replacement 3B was a 3B/OF. I wound up with the 1B/3B at 3B and the 3B/OF at OF, despite having an actual OF on the bench. I can well imagine how this would have happened and it might take a lot more code to avoid it. It's not a big deal - though no complaints if you're able to fix! Avoiding the non-catcher at catcher would be a bit more important.

Thanks for the details this is helpful.
