A sad situation

A sad situation

2 players hit Home runs yesterday one in MLB and another in Double A ball and were called out for missing a Base, 1 missed 1st base, the other was called a Triple because the ump said he never stepped on Home Plate, in replays he CLEARLY stepped on home plate -

But missing 1st base on a bases empty HR? How do you do that??

Re: A sad situation

I saw both. Hayes was awful. He missed first because he was watching the ball. For the minor leaguer, he did some kind of side skip into home and I never saw a good angle of whether he touched or not. Kind of important.

Re: Re: A sad situation

That's two totally bone-headed plays by the Pirates this year. I am starting to question their coaching staff. How did the 1B Coach not see it and yell at him to turn around and come back to touch first before heading to second. Horrible coaching. Not excusing the players, because they need to be better, but that coaching staff should be concerned about their future. The team is not doing well and they are making horrendous mistakes. Feel sorry for Pirates fans. Only 4 winning seasons in the past 29 years and now they have to deal with this crap.

Re: A sad situation

In the replay it appeared that the 1B coach may have been trying to get Hayes attention- but once he stepped on 2B without touching 1st- it was all over- That's the problem, too busy stylin and admirin than playing the game.

Even Bobby Witt Jr. who lost that HR and was credited with a Triple- if he wasn't trying to style and do some hokey dance touching the plate he would have gotten a HR.

Remember the Scene in Major League where Willie Mays Hayes snap catches the Ball in CF ending the inning and runs back to the dugout
and Manager Lou Brown says " Nice Catch Hayes, Don't ever F**kin do it again"

Yes. Funny scene.

Ironically, I just found this short video on Youtube about the 2021 Pirates...
