again . . . . bot teams

again . . . . bot teams

this is not cool to have 3 bot teams in one division and 1 in the other, this needs to be looked at

Re: again . . . . bot teams

The schedule I believe is not unbalanced. And look at this league, the bots are better than some of the humans, which begs the other issue with lots of Auto Leagues: inactive managers. Auto leagues are inherently luck of the draw, even if there were no bots you could benefit from being in a division with 2 or 3 absentee owners.

At any rate, I think very few auto league owners are against the idea of a single division so that’s the likely fix, but it will take me some time to make that change.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

OK, thx 😀

Re: again . . . . bot teams

And for some reason two teams (Racoons and Renegades) have an outfielder playing shortstop. On pace for over 150 errors each player.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

I am in this league and it is unfortunate to have 3 bot teams and 2 inactive owners all in the same division. This means the one owner wins the division and the remaining 5 active owners vie for 4 playoff spots. Not really fun.

Guy, any way to add an option where owners can join a league already in progress where they could take over a bot or inactive owners team? Under Join Leagues there could be an option to Join Existing League. I would be interested in doing that. Just a thought.

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

I like the idea of a user taking control a bot team. I am all for that.

It would be a nice challenge to try to turn a bum bot team into a winner using free agency leftovers...

Re: again . . . . bot teams

That’s an interesting idea. I’m definitely not against it. I’d have to give some thought on how to execute it. There are so many bot teams it would be challenging to browse them and figure out which one you’d want to take over. Let’s say 20 people were interested and did this, it would put a minuscule dent in the bot problem as there are probably hundreds of bot teams.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

I am curious how people would feel if I made leagues more flexible. In other words let’s say a league wasn’t filling past 8 teams, or even six, the season would start with just those teams and a revamped schedule and fewer playoff teams. So for example if a league started with 8 maybe four would make it. If it started with six maybe three where the #1 team got a bye to the finals. Etc.

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

Lower amount of team would results in stacked lineups without any weaknesses.

When there is 12 teams in there, we always have to carry couple of weakness and have all kind of variations to our lineups.

If there is a lesser amount of teams, then just the same ''meta'' players will play everytime...

There could also be some huge difference with the results, and just having a very few players making a difference in a more stacked league...

Re: again . . . . bot teams

Why not just play in a custom league ? It's the same game only there are more teams and you have drafts. A lot funner imho.

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

Thanks, that has historically been the response to smaller leagues, was just curious if that feeling persisted.

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

100% agree, would love for some auto leagues to be eliminated, the wait time for my leagues that i'm in are taking longer and longer to fill, and then when they do it's by bots, it's no fun competing against bots . . . . . playing against real owners is what makes this fun

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

would love to play in Custome League, but i don't ever see a Best of 1980s league which is what i'm interested in

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

and i believe the big reason it's taking so long for leagues to fill is the high number of bots, when season ends those teams with bots are open to new owners but new owners never show up and the cycle of waiting starts again, leading to bots having to be added to fill the openings, and it continues the next season

Re: again . . . . bot teams

Join a league that's in the late 70's and it will be in the 80's soon. Most custom leagues have rookie classes that are historically accurate.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

I don’t think it’s a big deal if we have to wait a few weeks for a league to fill and start, most of us are in 20-30 leagues anyways.
Honestly, what’s the rush?

I understand that patience is a difficult thing to have sometimes, I too feel annoyed/frustrated that a league takes awhile sometimes, but it’s bcuz I like everything about it, (draft, team building, strategy, filling holes/weaknesses etc. )
Therefore I don’t really want to change it .

12 team leagues are already pretty small, 8 or 6 would not be interesting

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

Why are people so intimidated by custom leagues ? There is no diff between them except for the number of teams and the fact you have to put in a little more time for offseason activities . I see all these complaints about bots and almost everyone that makes those posts have never played in a custom. Try it , you might like it. Plus , most of the commishes and gm's in those leagues will gladly answer any questions you have.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

I’m really not intimidated by custom leagues, I simply prefer the ATG leagues. I’m willing to wait the extra time instead of using the bots. One or two are fine, beyond that, and it affects the competition.

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

This is all good feedback, thanks. Like a lot of things about the site, there's mixed desires. On this thread, we're not hearing from the folks who'd rather have bots and keep their leagues alive and not wait forever for the next season to start, and trust me a lot do. That said, we all universally would like 12 human teams and leagues to start quickly, while also having a wide variety of leagues to choose from. It's unlikely we'll have all of that - the number of people who use the site always fluctuates. We have surges where we get new users but also dry spells, so no matter how many leagues are available, there will be long lulls without bots.

But I will continue to look to trim leagues, as I have been doing gradually all year, and since the COVID surge of leagues. I'll try to keep bot numbers lower. But as of now, I hear 5 or 10x more complaints about leagues not starting than I do about having 2+ bot teams.

A few of you have asked why people want one division in baseball Auto Leagues. It's not just bots, it's also inactive users - people have been asking for one division for a while because often you might have 2-3 inactive owners all in the same division. I'd rather not lose divisions, but I do think people have a good argument for it.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

One division would be great, it would eliminate a lot of little things people are complaining about.
Schedules would be even, I’m guessing that’s their main fear, is that someone has an easier schedule .

Obviously would prefer 12 humans, but the way it is now works well. (With Bots)

Please be patient, the leagues will start eventually, and when they do, you will be happy 👍

Re: Re: again . . . . bot teams

I think an alternative to one division would be to spread Bot teams evenly among the two divisions. Not sure how hard it would be to code that to occur because it could require the shuffling of divisions or the assigning of divisions after the league is full.

Re: again . . . . bot teams

Really like the idea of one division.
