Batting Average/Slump busters

Batting Average/Slump busters

I've noticed an increasingly annoying trend among my teams, and I was wondering if this was common?

Do you find that a large number of players on your teams just can't hit the broad side of a barn, even though their history would indicate they would consistently hit well?

We're not talking for a few games, but for entire seasons, your list for Slump Busters contains more than half your entire batting lineup...

If this wasn't an issue plaguing what seems to be an unusual amount of my teams, I wouldn't even mention it.

Just wondering if there's a bug or do others also have this frequent disheartening experience of half or more of their roster of should-be great hitters batting like Mr Magoo?

Anyway, just wanted to vent...

Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

Oh no......hitting is not the same here recently. When Wade Boggs can't even get over .230 at any time in a season for hitting in a best of 1980's league you know there's something up. From my playing, unless you boost your parks , the hitting is below the average for the players.

dWAR - it's that simple.

Re: Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

I thought something was going on... Just noticed a rash of players on a lot of my active teams all in need of SB & it's driving me up the wall!

Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

Wade Boggs' slash line across all 1980s leagues:

.294 .375 .489

But don't let facts get in the way of a good story, by all means.

If there are other examples I can look at, let me know.

Re: Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

You know Guy, I had Barry Bonds in his 76 HR season and he only hit 63 HR's, not withstanding the fact that 28 of them were of the 3 Run variety , I got screwed!!!

I also had Ron Guidry in his 25-3 year and he only won 22 games while losing 6 - something is definitely wrong.... :)

Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

Yeah, I'd love to have a season like that!
Where do I sign up?

Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

DWAR has changed this game waaaay too much
Now instead of choosing Babe Ruth people want Andrelton Simmons
It’s taken a lot of fun out of the game

Re: Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

I don't know Ty. Due to dWar (and RF before that), I've learned to have a much greater appreciation for the defensive side of the game. And although I still love scoring lots of runs and seeing the long ball, I also really enjoy watching my pitchers shut down the opposition with some good dWar behind them. It's also helped more guys be competitive in leagues where they miss out on Babe Ruth and the other big sluggers but can still build a team with pitching and defense. Maybe dWar has actually helped PC mimic real life a bit more than some other sims since pitching and defense are supposed to win you championships (I know that's debatable, but sometimes the cliches are actually true!) Just another perspective on it.

Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

Maybe instead of Cal Ripken people want Simmons. Throwing Babe Ruth in there stacks hyperbole on top of hyperbole.

Talk to 30 of today's MLB GMs, and I bet 15-20 of them would take Simmons over Tulowitski (in his prime) types.

Re: Re: Batting Average/Slump busters

Lol, I may have stretched it a bit with the Babe but you get my thought process.
In all honesty I might not have as much of an issue with dWAR if you could tell what the individuals were doing , not just the team number of hits saved.
But again / still PC is the cream in the world of sim hardball .
