Re: Baseball Quiz

Re: Baseball Quiz

Ok. Here's another one. Name the only player to record more than 100 extra base hits in back to back seasons.

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

Todd Helton

Re: Baseball Quiz

Nice work roc

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

Name the only 4 MLB players to hit 300 home runs while playing SS.

Re: Baseball Quiz

Ernie Banks, Nomar Garciaparra, and thats without research

guessing-- a-rod and Barry Larkin?

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

Banks, A-Rod, Ripken, maybe M. Tejada?? If not Tejada then definitely Ozzie Guillen...

Re: Baseball Quiz

Tejada got to 300, but he played more 3B than SS his last two seasons, so I guess it depends on semantics with him.

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

I just looked and can't believe Nomar Garciaparra only hit 229 HR!

I knew Ozzie Guillen didn't he was short by 272.....

Re: Baseball Quiz

Bank's never played ss after 1961 so hes not usually counted as a 300 homer ss, but 500 hr is 500 hr.

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

So far - 3 correct answers: Banks, A-Rod and Tejada.

Ripken is no and this 4th was a bit of a surprise for me.

BTW: Source of the question is Jayson Stark.

Re: Baseball Quiz

and Stark phrased to be while in the line-up as a SS

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

banks did not hit 300 hr as a shortstop see my previous post. Cal did , anyone know where to find players stats broken down by pos played, bbref only shows games played but lumps all hitting together.Tejada played 3b at the end of hit carreer and hit more than 7 homers but the problem with this ? is a matter of semantics.

Re: Baseball Quiz

Your argument is with Jayson Stark. I'll trust him to be right since he is vetted quite highly by the baseball writer community as well as his book publisher from which the question came.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/..
This is the career HR leaders but if you click on HR log to the right and scroll to the bottom-left it breaks their HRs down by position.

For what its worth this method only shows A-Rod and Ripken as 300+ HR hitters as a SS.

Tejada has 291 and Banks has 277.

Also they do admit anything before 1973 about 3.6% of the info could be wrong or missing some details. So not 100% bulletproof I guess

Re: Re: Baseball Quiz

Sin, Nomar was awesome, just one more career messed up by injury.
