Statistical Anomaly

Statistical Anomaly

There is this player, Vir Fortis, a strong man.
https://www.pennantchase.com/lgPlay..

Yes, he has crazy stats where he doesn't get many hits but 98% of them are HRs.
This year, in his first 494 at bats, he had 95 hits and 76 were HRs. That's 80% and makes sense.
But since then, in 159 at bats, he has 27 hits and only 1 of them was an HR. That seems like a decent sample size where 3.7% of his hits are HRs. Is the system throttling his stats? I ask not as a criticism but trying to understand what's going on.

Re: Statistical Anomaly

Made up player by someone who doesn't know baseball. Real stats 98 homers but only 95 rbi ? Did he pass someone on the basepath on 3 of his homers ? Or maybe the sniper that Bill Veeck threatened Eddie Gaedel with were there and shot 3 of the baserunners lol . I remember when I first started pc there were a lot of leagues like this but I didn't think they still existed. I remember there was a league once where every player had all zeroes for stats !!

Re: Re: Statistical Anomaly

The league is called League of Controversy, so I dont think the player being unrealistic is their main concern. The original question is still a valid one. Scrolling through his game log you can see a noticeable difference that makes it seem like something changed.

Re: Re: Statistical Anomaly

"Yes, he has crazy stats" - @Mrbubbles1967 that was my attempt to avoid comments like yours. You'll notice that he originally had 100 HRs and 100 RBI and progressed to 98 and 95. So that was more of a system progression problem than "Made up player by someone who doesn't know baseball."
The league commissioners make crazy players and it makes for some interesting situations like this.

Re: Statistical Anomaly

There is a throttle at 100 HRs, but it looks like it somehow got set lower in this league - I've fixed it... since I know you'll ask, no the throttle isn't editable or customizable right now. As for why it's there, it was back in the days of Olson, etc. and 100 was the "ok something is wrong here" line and meant to prevent things from getting way out of hand if a league was trying to massively nerf stats. And, no the throttle does NOT apply during the playoffs.

Re: Re: Statistical Anomaly

Yea that was funny! At a quick glance I saw 79 HR in 140+ games. Then looked at game log. No HR in last 17 and only 1 in last 38! Looks like a fun league. Original.
