Suggestion

Auto League Chat Box Badges - I know I posted this idea once before, but I really do think it's worth considering. I think one of the best ways to keep owners interested is to have them interacting with each other, even if it's just once in a long while. Some of us know that the best custom leagues are the ones where there is a lot of chat in the chat boxes and the owners really get to know each other.

That will never be the case in autoleagues, and I know some of you are in 40 leagues and don't care at all about this. But the target would be the fairly new players who might just feel a little more engaged if they have someone to chat with in the one or two autoleagues they're in rather than posting something on the Global Board (which might seem a bit scary to some of the more introverted PCrs).

If the little red badge numbers popped up when you were on an autoleague screen, it would alert the owners that there was a new chat box post, just like it does for the Global Chat Box and the Boards now. I don't think it would be an annoyance, since hardly anyone ever uses chat anyway, but I do think there would be the odd player and the odd league where it might turn into something. If it did, I think you'd find that those owners were more invested in their teams/leagues and they'd likely stick around longer and maybe increase their participation as they met other owners and got to know them a bit.

Re: Suggestion

I have tried to engage chat in a few of the Auto Leagues I am in, and it's just something that I don't see happening.

Re: Suggestion

As much as I think this is a good idea, I think Joey's right, this is something I don't see happening any time soon (I mean the auto league chat occuring regularly, not the badge for it...)

*Shrugs*

Re: Re: Suggestion

I do definitely agree that part of the fun of custom leagues is the camaraderie and friendships that come to be thru playing with other people, and chatting and getting to know them and form bonds, but most of those leagues last for months and years, while a Auto League lasts...2 months tops (??) I have noticed from my 2 plus years here that Auto Leagues are very...well....informal. Almost no trading, and when a owner does send a trade request, it's just a request, while in Custom Leagues owners will sometimes send "proposals" as to the deal. I don't know if it's ever been discussed/proposed here, but perhaps having Multiple Season Auto Leagues could encourage more interaction in them ??

Re: Suggestion

I know it won't be widely used, but I'm just thinking of the few instances where maybe it would be, and who knows, it might catch on a bit more than you might think and might encourage the more talkative owners to stick around, maybe encourage a few quieter owners to come out of their shell a bit. It would be a lot easier to share things than the current method of sending messages to individuals. Just a thought.

Re: Re: Suggestion

I met GusPC on an auto-league chat... it was a "private chat" on the public boards where just the two of us were interacting. :)

Now we're having a great time in his custom Bad News Bears League.

So I agree that a little red badge would be great... maybe some people would never look at it... but some would!

Easy for me to "+1"... I'll let Gbacci tell us how easy it would be to program!

Re: Suggestion

Since the recent post about meeting GusPC on an Auto League was posted - Auto League registrations are down over 70% โ€”- Coincidence? I think not!! Happy Holidays to all especially Gus ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜

Re: Re: Suggestion

Agreed I want to do it, it just gets a little complex because a badge has to know for every user if they have seen the latest chat or not - that was fairly easy for the global chat which applies to everyone, but now you're talking about maintaining that for every league. Not impossible, just something that has to get prioritized.

Re: Suggestion

Thanks, Gus, for a suggestion that will add 0.03% value to the Auto League experience.

gbacci's synapses aren't infinite, please stop diverting his brain power to Canadian pipe dreams. This chat stuff ranks up there with your request that all Toronto teams and current & former Twins players get a 1% across-the-board bump in performance because, "It just feels right."

Re: Suggestion

Sol, don't forget, Gus technically isn't a Blue Jays fan, but rather a Minnesota Twins fan... Lol ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ

Edit: and upon rereading the original post by Sol, I see that both Toronto AND Minnesota are mentioned, and begin mentally kicking myself yet again, since I apparently miss key bits of statements that should really be read before I use my malfunctioning brain, which apparently partially resides in another dimension, while only about 35% of it actually sits inside that 10 inch thick concrete block I call my head ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
