History of the Game: 1901-1902

History of the Game: 1901-1902

I know, I run enough leagues the way as it is.
But I came across an old concept league I'd plotted out a year or two ago.

It's called History of the Game, and chronicles MLB starting at the turn of the last century. I've strengthened most franchises by giving them the stronger between 1901 and 1902 versions of players.

Just gauging interest right now on who'd be interested in a league that would follow chronological timelines right from the "beginning".

We'd be operating under 'strange' parameters (smaller pitching staffs/rotations) for awhile.

Any interest? Still working out old Rules thought up.

*Veteran owners preferred. There will be a franchise draft, no calling 'dibs'.

Jay,

Add me to your list. Trust you on putting together something solid and looking for something new.

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I am interested in this idea and would like to join the league when it is made

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I would also be interested.

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Jay,

Not sure if I am considered a 'veteran' yet :)

But sounds intriguing. I would be interested.

Thanks

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I always have room for 1 more.

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I am interested for sure, you run really good leagues

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I'm not a veteran, but I'd definitely be interested.

I would be interested if a spot is there.

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

If you're still looking for owners Jay, let me know. I love historical leagues. My favorite type of Pennant Chase leagues by far!

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

16 teams. Developing a wait list.

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Count me in Jay, I would be interested as well.

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Make no mistake, I plan on working in new teams/expansions/stadiums/cities all within realistic windows. I'm figuring out how I want to incorporate a part-Real progressions/part Classic progressions mix into it. With some tough choices to make each season. This league will be simple in rules, but requires PC knowledge to govern your decision making....

With that said, all names commented here and who've messaged me have been added to wait list but three: JwbSavages, you're young, you already quit my public league abruptly with no given reason, so I ask at this time to plead your case. I don't set up "cupcake" leagues, they require being a studious, knowledgeable owner in order to win, nothing frustrates me more than quitting early as soon as the chips are down. How do I know you'll stay through the 'lean' years ?... DandyChiggins20 - All the hooplah surrounding cheating, you'll have no access to tools in my league, but tell me why you deserve a shot in a league full of legitimate, competitive owners, and HaloFire, you simply lack experience, I'm more willing to give you a go if you're willing to learn the ropes of Customs (they're all different), specifically this one.

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Hey Jay, just wanted to make you aware, if you weren't already, HaloFire is currently taking his first major steps in being a commish. So if anything will be a good indicator of how he would fare in a league run by you, I'd say his level of success or failure (whichever ends up being the case in the long run) in that league would be a good metric to go by. But of course, that's entirely up to you

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I was stupid and new back then, and I've matured since then and know how to run a team and a league to that example i went overboard at first but I've cut back since then

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I've compiled a list of 15 owners, 2 that are suspect (Rebuilders Paradise is already a headache due to public nature, constant joining/quitting, trade evaluating), so I'm looking for worry-free, competitive owners. One slot left.

Fair warning: I work a 40, have a side business, have six kids at home (ages 18, 13, 12, 10, 7, and 4), a wife I'm very attentive to (hence the six kids. Hehe), so I do move slow sometimes with off-season stuff, but all my leagues are fun, contain top-notch owners, and are very competitive.

https://www.pennantchase.com/lgHome..
I'm mulling over Rules as I continue to create draft class for another one of my customs.

*Mulling over including 1903 in initial rosters, and giving "best of 3 seasons" to all eligible players.
*Mulling to allow duplicates or implement 'Team Rights', or compromise and re-name certain duplicate players to nods to their "selves".
*Mulling over having a draft of players not yet imported into league yet, using 1898-1900 as the initial draft class.
*Deciding on a final AB/IP threshold for upcoming seasons and allowing for flexibility. Currently, I went with the uberlow 15 AB/ 1 IP to include max players. Some will be deleted, like Pittsburgh's pitcher Honus Wagner, as an example. Lol You don't want superlow AB/IP import thresholds typically, as you get ridiculous stat rates, ridiculous results. You will see editing to eliminate any craziness.

*Devising a unique system/a combination of Real and Classic progressions, along with risk/reward involved in Classic, like switching a C to an S, but at the expense of one C becoming a U, and another an F, thus implementing alot of strategy of who to put in which bucket...

*PC is modernized, so bullpens are necessary, so without losing the rubberarmed SP IP of that day, finding a method that allows teams to convert a few SP, but none too weak or too strong.

Thoughts ? Anyone wish to claim final slot?
Ill invite owners, assign random numbers to owners, then use random number generator to determine draft order.

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Jay is not overstating when he says, " but all my leagues are fun, contain top-notch owners, and are very competitive."
Very true.
Hope I made the cut, lol.

I’m very interested in this!

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Jay,

two thoughts ideas in response to your brainstorming:

1) I actually love being able to switch seasons as it adds to the strategy. Sometimes the best hitting and defensive seasons are different and which I pick depends on my team build. So, if you were to progress 3 seasons at a time and always give the managers the choice of which three years to use, that may be cool.

So, in season 1 it is 1901-1903 and for every player one can use either 1901, 1902, or 1903.

Season 2 uses 1904-1906; season 3 1907-1909, etc.

2) I like your mixed progression idea. what if we were allowed a limited number of keepers and for those keepers we had to have a specific amount we designate as real progression, C, S, U, and F. So, imagine we each kept 10 players- we could have 6 that progress to their 1904-1906 seasons, 1 C, 1 S, 1 U, and 1 F (or whatever combo of numbers you settle on). This would add a lot of layers of strategy: who do you keep and who do you place in which progression type?

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

You're misunderstanding a portion of what I'm saying, I've currently got roster stocked with 1901 and 1902 players, and where they have both, I went with the better of the two as a whole (offense, FLD%, dWAR, Speed, for P's H9/K9), so that choice has already been made for owners as part of initial rosters. By looks, that may be good enough.

Stat switching, progression scheme, that would all still come into play...

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

I'm sending out invites. Used random number generator to give us all numbers, then used those through a random draft order generator. Of course, it draws me first, making the whole damn thing suspect. Lmao. I have attached the link used to the homepage to assure no shenanigans occurred.

Took a quick look. You put in a lot of work for sure.

Wow Jay, the rules and teams look great, thanks for giving me a spot!

Re: Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

When will we know if we are in the league?/When will we receive the invite? You’ve put in a lot of work,it looks like a successful league!

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Rules look great, Jay. Should be fun!

Re: History of the Game: 1901-1902

Look like some fun rules! Looking forward to it!
