The future of baseball

The future of baseball

We are all fans here but you have to admit the lack of any news is not looking good. As a lifelong fan I stopped going to games live after the last strike but I did'nt quit watching. I f they strike again i might just stick to this site and old videos. I am tired of billionaires fighting with millionaires. I remember as a kid in the late 60's early 70's we would stay at the school ball field playing for the fun of it, a lot of times we didnt even keep score. we played till it was too dark to see.

Re: The future of baseball

Unfortunately MrBubbles, those days are long gone, as the pandemic showed us, these team Owners make so much $$ from TV and advertising rights that they don't even need fans in the Stadium.

Yes, they take a minor hit on loss of Concessions and Parking and such, but the days of getting a Pennant or Tee Shirt only at the Park are over, it's more profitable to just have fans order on line and ship it to them.

If the owners were to actually end up overall losing $$ because of lack of ticket Revenues, they simply would not have played the games.

I too remember trying to get to the park first to claim the field for my neighborhood gang to play a game on, now you couldn't get enough kids together interested enough in actually playing in most cases.

Re: Re: The future of baseball

Instead of making hundreds of millions, they only made tens of millions. My Yankees, take out 2020, recently have one of the lowest % of salary vs revenue ratio, around 30%. It's crazy when the Yankees are adding a prospect so that the other team pays more money in a trade. It's more important to Hal to make an insane amount of money than to win.

Re: The future of baseball

You don’t have to spend an insane amount of money to win. Has any recent team won by doing that? When the Yankees won it was because they had great players come up from their farm system, then the money is used to fill in other spots. You don’t win just buying everyone, that failed for the Yankees and other teams for a long time.
