Strategy

Tonights game , Buffalo vs the Giants . Buffalo scores with 3 plus minutes left to go up 13-9. They then kick the xp to gou p 14-9. At that point in the game , how do you not go for 2 ? by kicking the xp , you will lose the game on a td. If you make the 2 , a td will tie and at least you have a chance for a missed xp . As we saw at the end of the game , the Giants had a chance to win on a td. Am I wrong ?

Re: Strategy

To go for 1 means nothing -that added point means nothing - so going for 2 actually makes more sense because 1 changes nothing- no guarantee The Bills would have converted but up 4 5 or 6 with 3 minutes to go for 2 also changes nothing you STILL lose to a TD and EP. -

Re: Re: Strategy

The extra point does matter. So going for 1 is the right call.

At 14-9, If New York replies with a quick TD and there is time left on the clock, it becomes 15-14 Giants and Buffalo is forcing the Giants instead to a 2XP to make it 17-14.

Buffalo can then still get the ball trailing by either 1 or 3, and win it or tie it with only a field goal on their final drive.

This scenario is more probable , than a combination of a successful Buffalo 2PT convert + a Missed Giants 1XP attempt...

There is whole lot of advance stats people looking at the most probable scenarios and making the calls nowadays...

Re: Strategy

I just remember last year on Thanksgiving when Det kicked a FG to tie with 23 seconds left and I made the comment that they left too much time on the clock my father scoffed at me and I said in todays NFL 23 seconds is too long.
17 seconds later Buf kicks a FG to win.

In the NFL of the 2020's it seems most teams can score from anywhere at anytime it is getting more like the AFL every year

Maybe your father was scoffing at you for other reasons not related to football.😆
