Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

I've noticed lately, there's a team in various auto leagues that is unfathomably bad. Like WHY would anyone fill a roster with players ranked 1-30 with maybe 3 or 4 quality players?

Is this some sort of experimentation, finding diamonds in the rough, or is this the auto-coach thing drafting a terrible team? Or is it something else?

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

Can you provide an example, what team and what league.
Ranking is just a guide, I select players based on DWAR, I try to only have + defense of players. Would take a player at a rank of 50 or so, over a player that is 70 or so that is a negative defender. Maybe the team is trying to load up on excellent defense of players, again an example will help.
To many people just draft a player because there rank is higher, I think that is a mistake.
Pitching and Defense are key, just my opinion.

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

This is the result of when a owner asks for a filler team in a auto-draft league. The team night pick 1-2 descent players and that's it.

Re: Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

I thought it was the auto fill option. TY!

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

If the user in question is Dynasty or Filler, then yes its the autofill option, its essentially a bot used to get leagues moving, but recently there has been some controversy regarding how bad those two teams end up...

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

These seem to be getting used more and more and they have been a pretty big success from the standpoint that we’ve gone from 200 inactive auto leagues down to 60.

But I can understand the complaints about how bad the teams are. I’ll put it on the urgent to-do list to see if I can make them better but still balanced.

Re: Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

I like the idea of bots helping filling leagues.

I just think it's all fine that they are terrible...

I just don't wan't them to be contenders... they are there for a reason.... to be fillers...

After all, al users are benifiting from the fillers presence...

I don't see why they should end up in any other spots than last in the rankings...

Re: Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

Gbacci, just look at them as the Buddy Bell (Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals) managed teams. Guaranteed to suck!

His first go-round was with the Tigers from 1996-1998, where he amassed a record of 184-277 for the historic franchise. He was fired partway through the 1998 season after going 52-85.

His second job was with the Colorado Rockies. Behind Todd Helton's flirtation with .400, Bell managed to guide the Rockies to an 82-80 finish in 2000. Unfortunately, this would be the best season of his career.

When Tony Pena was fired by the Royals after starting 8-25 in 2005, Bell was offered probably his last opportunity to manage a major league club.

After winning his first four games, including a three-game sweep of the mighty New York Yankees, Bell finished the rest of the year with a 39-69 mark.

Still, he managed to stick around for two more seasons. The Royals went 62-100 in 2006 and 69-93 in 2007 before Bell was fired once more.

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

Plpl, I certainly understand the thought, but 100+ loss seasons are able to be assumed just by seeing those 2 names, and I think others could soon find ways to exploit that to gain a big advantage (not a guarantee, it obviously hasn't happened yet, but it is certainly possible that it could occur down the line). Maybe just limiting the pool to, say, 60's ranked players (example, no more than a 69 rank) for those 2 teams could help stabilize both of those poor teams without a 1962 Mets being a guaranteed constant in Auto Leagues but still have them essentially be lesser teams. Just a thought...

Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

It is NOT the same for all teams, it’s a big benefit to the teams in their division. Only 3 competitive teams instead of 4.

He’s a philanthropist! 🤪🤪

Re: Re: Bizarre rosters in autoleagues

I will say that in Daily Draft, filler and dynasty do a decent job
(although curious that by Rd 16, they each have only drafted one SP, while most other teams in the league have drafted 4+ SP)

The bigger issue that I see here is that filler and dynasty are in the same division, which means that the two other teams in that division (mine included) only have to beat out one other team to make the playoffs. I'm wondering if there could be a script written so that if filler and dynasty are in the same league, they aren't in the same division?

I like Ozzie Smith due to I draft wise enough to allow me a best fielding SS at the #9 in my batting oder
