Sheik's Query - Expanded

Sheik's Query - Expanded

I felt like "When Did I Start Here?" needed a companion piece. Something a little more comprehensive and takes us down memory lane..

(I'll leave this blank and copy and paste below so others may do the same..)

First Ring?

Sweetest Victory?

Most Agonizing Defeat?

Most surprising Ring/Comeback?

First Mentors?

Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule?

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain? Lol

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

I do remember that the "Big Dogs" on this site were guys like rfb60609, GTO49 and Dusty G - I lost them regulary before I "broke the code" on the original game.

- The Sheik

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

my first ring?
I went 49-7 in my college baseball league and lucked out in the title
probably the sweetest win too
Most Agonizing Defeat?
I went 45-11 but lost in the title somehow
Most surprising Ring/Comeback?
I don't have a surprising ring but I currently have started in an MLB 2025 league 10-17 now I'm 22-20
First Mentors
probably any PC vet in a league
Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule
well I'm in the death league https://www.pennantchase.com/lgStan.. but kingstreet is tough because it seems that he at least wins 90 games in every auto league
Owners, who's rivalries border on personal disdain?
i haven't been around that long to get rivalries like that
maybe in a few years

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

First Ring? After going 0-24 in playoffs

Sweetest Victory? The 1st. Isn't it the same in everything?

Most Agonizing Defeat? Won 117 games, up 3-1 in finals then lose two in a row. Up by 5 runs with 2 out in the ninth of game 7 when 3 errors a few hits and a number of walks see that game slip away. It was early in my 0-24 period and really had me thinking maybe I should just stop.

Most surprising Ring/Comeback? Nothing memorable here.

First Mentors? If by mentors, yo mean guys who I watched closely to see how they played, it was probably ClassicOs

Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule? None. In fact, I look for leagues where I can play the better players. Why bother if you don't push to get better?

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain? None. Life is too short to waste time being around them. Case in point, the kid who will post next.

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

all im hearing is that you pulled an Indians

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

First Ring?
---
1970- present league, and then since I spend all of the 90's playing stratomatic board game, I applied my PHD in TIME CONSUMING BASEBALL SIM to effect since then mostly in best of 1990's and 2000's league....

Sweetest Victory?
----
Win some - lose some.... I play so many leagues at the same time, I don't even realize when I win or when I lose in playoffs.... most of my leagues on cruise control...

Most Agonizing Defeat?
---
I would have to awnser the same as sweetest victory... losing is part of the game, I make sure to built a playoff team and then, whatever happens happens...

Most surprising Ring/Comeback?
-----
I Remember couple of years back, when range was the defensive factor. I had a 1990's team that was unusually playing bad and struggling... for half the season I think the team was well below .500. I removed all my defensive bums such as Ryan Klesko / Juan Gonzalez and some more of these type of players, who were also my best hitters, I put in effect what was for me an experimental shock treatment since that team was going nowhere anyway...
I put guys in like Lenny Dykstra, Orlando Merced who at the time had huge Drange numbers with + arms etc... that team went on a tear for the remaining of the season, global team ERA drop awhole run per game... and then I never look back and never allowed a defensive bum to touch the field...

First Mentors? Papadharma, was quite fun to play with, great competition, who would help you and give is own thoughts on how to approach the game...

Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule?
-----
I mainly play auto leagues, becaus eit is less time consuming...
I love to see competition, sometimes it is quite an easy walk in there since competition is missing sometimes. So when a league is pack with good competition, it is all good for me.I would have to say, everytime I see Kingstreet in my league... mostly in best of 70's and 80's league, I know I will be eating some dirt down the road. He literally has a 50% chance of winning the ring when he makes the playoffs. (688 rings in 1443 playoffs aappearance) When I play favorite teams, I know Jayslater or Sheik will just crush any efforts I can make... Classic O'S is quite a competitor in the best of 1990's league... So everytime I win againts these guys... I know I've been pretty lucky...

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain?
-------
I don't disdain any of them, but I just don't like when a new player with very few experience just starts talking negatively on the thread about the site, or are just not receptive and don't accept that there is learning curve to this great game... It take so much time to learn this game... I've been here for so long, I have quite good succes standing 5th all time in rings in auto's, and I am still learning, and mostly through defeat and playing vs good owners...

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

First Ring?
Auto League with Arizona

Sweetest Victory?
Had to be the first ring probably cause I never expected Arizona to win a title

Most Agonizing Defeat?
Being up 3-0 on Jay with a dominant NY Mets team and losing the next 4 in the World Series :(

Most surprising Ring/Comeback?
Hard to remember as I've had a bunch of comebacks from 3-0 or 3-1 for titles.

First Mentors?
One of the first leagues I joined had yankeebb & mcvn in it (College baseball league)...learned lots early on from them.

Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule?
Bip, Jay, Mcvn, Yankeebb, Sheik

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain? Lol
Jay...lol just kidding ;)

I don't think there are any rivalries that have gotten to that...I struggle with Bip but his teams are solid when I was in those leagues.

LOL always a great series against a run4 team, but i feel like i lose a lot more of those than i win...
:-)

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

Don't give me that crap Bip...your Mets team was so dominant in that one league

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

First Ring? Arizona - original MLB Experiment, before I rebooted it. I had pulled off 39 trades in two seasons, including two #1 picks and it felt so sweet to upset a powerful Mattattack Tribe team in the WS.

Sweetest Victory? There's been a few. Coming back from down 0-3 w Cincy against Mcvn's Nats in BOTB2 NLCS. Coming back from down 0-3 against Run in another BOTB World Series. (CLE-PHI), Finally winning Jim2Miller's league felt good. The WC Marlins miracle I recently pulled off in Fave Team Auto.

Most Agonizing Defeat? So many dominant Experiment D'BACKS, SARMLB Padres, NCAA's Sun Devil's, new Experiment Rays playoff losses all hurt because I felt I had the more complete team. Recent Brewers 3-1 turnaround defeat in Fave Team Auto WS killed me. Not getting to a WS in any of Matty (well, one, but he smoked me) or Waller's league's is killing me, but I've got 5 teams set up to be perennial contenders, so who knows?

Most surprising Ring/Comeback? One of the comebacks listed above, but surprising Ring goes to how I got my Padres fave team Autos ring, go look at that years combination and tell me how I did it. My only ring with a losing record as well.

First Mentors? Madball, JoshandDez, Papadharma, Sheik

Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule? Paul21 kicks my a** so much. Yankee, Mcvn4, Sheik, LarryGreenbaum, Bip, Run, all guys that have given me fits over the years. There's a ton more tough owners, most of the fellas who play in my customs I consider the creme de la creme.

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain? Lol I'll say this, a few owners here make their '****-on's' for me no secret, but I'm not going to start drama here. I don't get the beefs anyway. I will say a former user told me I'd never win a ring with all 30 franchises, 28/30, somebody let Mr. Hartley know when I hit that mark. I love the friendly rivals I've made here. With all the leagues, there's sure alot of history. :)

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

jay what teams are left to win with?

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

@run4, Mets have been winning lately, but i remember at least a couple of Expos smackdowns in that league a few seasons ago...but always a friendly rivalry

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

@Bip - too bad I decided to leave that league lately but we have borg’s league for our rivalry

Re: Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

Brewers and Royals.

Re: Sheik's Query - Expanded

Since I never really replied.......

First Ring? Weazles Ripped My Flesh - All-Time Greats. This was the 1st of 10 Championships I won prior to the Best of 2009 Ring. I may have been on this site longer than I initially thought, more like 2005-06.

Sweetest Victory? my 1st custom Ring: Los Angeles Dodgers MLB 1985 The Glory Years" I was the (self proclaimed 😉) King of Auto's and this win game me confidence that I could compete in Customs.

Most Agonizing Defeat? Hard to say - any one of the many times I've lost a 3-0 lead in a finals.

Most surprising Ring/Comeback? St. Louis Cardinals League of Aardvarks (1999) - I didn't really think it was a great team, but all the great teams got eliminated and I beat another over-achieving team.

First Mentors? I learned a lot about how to win in autos by observing guys like rfb60609, GTO49 and DustyG. I've learned a lot about Customs from raiderbill33 and, yes, you Jayslater. I might add that Guy was always willing to answer the many questions I had when I started on his site.
Toughest Competition/Owners you hate seeing on the Schedule? I can name a bunch of guys here including jayslater, Guspc13, steelerbus07, yankeebb, raiderbill33

Owners who's rivalries border on personal disdain? Lol - I'd like to say kingstreet, but he's the "invisible man" on this site so any rivalry would be one sided.
