Primary/Secondary defensive positions.

Primary/Secondary defensive positions.

Hey all. It's been quite a number of year since I've been active on this site, so I'm just starting to get back into the swing of all the new mechanics that weren't around back in the day. Figuring it it out as I go, but I've got a question I can't seem to find an answer to: what sort of drop off is expected by playing a player in a secondary defensive position?

I recall that it used to be a roughly .050 decrease in fielding% for playing, say, Adrian Beltre at SS, but now defense is a much larger and more complex part of the simulation than it used to be. Is it still roughly the same sort of penalty, or is it more (or less) substantial? Is there a hit to their prospective range at a secondary position as well? If anybody could elucidate this for me I'd be grateful.

Re: Primary/Secondary defensive positio

Still the same, dWAR doesn't decline.

Re: Re: Primary/Secondary defensive pos

From the FAQ section of the main page, "There's more detail on the Edit Lineup page, but in short, when a player plays his secondary position, he gets a 5% higher chance of making an error. When he plays totally out of position, he has a 15% higher chance of making an error. It's not adviced to play someone outside their secondary position."

I take that to mean there is a slight defensive penalty when at their secondary position, although not sure how dWAR exactly equates to errors or more of an all-inclusive defensive rating in the sim.

Re: Primary/Secondary defensive pos

Not quite sure how I managed to miss that when going through to find an answer. But good to know it's essentially the same as it used to be, since I've been treating it as such.

Cheers to you both.
