Weird no hitter trivia today

Weird no hitter trivia today

John Means just became the first person ever to throw a no-hitter with no walks, errors, or HBPs that was *not* a perfect game. The only base runner reached on a wild pitch on a strikeout (which I think would also make it the first 28-out no-hitter, if I’m not mistaken).

Earliest in a season to already have 3 nono's. MLB altered the ball in the offseason , are we going back to pitchers dominating like the 60's ?

Re: Re: Weird no hitter trivia today

According to The Athletic, as of the end of Tuesdays games, MLB hitters were hitting a collective .232

Re: Weird no hitter trivia today

i watched the entire game today the seams had nothing to do with anything. Means was dealing and the M's have been struggling. I kinda like the old school mlb from the 70's when 30 homers was an achievement .would like to see base stealing back but that's just me. If you want a prime example of old school look at the 1960 world series the yankees out scored the pirates 2 to 1 but pittsburgh won it all.

Re: Re: Weird no hitter trivia today

Yesterday the Blue Jays played Reese Mc Guire at C.
A left handed hitter who hit for .071 Last year.

With one out, nobody on in the 3rd, the game is tied 2-2, the platoon minor major leaguer comes up at the plate, the defense completely shifts on the right side, no SS , no 3B ...

The guy is hitting 9th in the lineup... leadoff hitter Semien along with Bichette and red hot Guerrero are coming up... could be great to have the 9th hitter on for these guys...

He takes 3 big hacks, trying to rip the hell out of the ball, trying to destroy it, hoping to wreck the seams out of that baseball, trying to exit velocity a world record out of it, going for the explosive launch angle that will make that ball scream...
Result : strikeout

swing and a miss 3 times while they were giving him the whole opposite field, maybe to open up a big inning with the hearth of the lineup coming...

This is repeating itself at least 10 times a game....

no wonder the league average is .232....and that the game is becoming relatively boring now...

Re: Weird no hitter trivia today

I don't understand why managers and coaches are not being held accountable for guys swinging away when the other side of the infield is essentially wide open. If players are not listening to the coaches telling them to go the opposite way, then bench them. The best way to get a team to stop using the shift is to exploit the shift! It makes absolutely no sense to me how teams just allow players to swing away when the name of the game is putting runners on base.

Re: Weird no hitter trivia today

Reese Mcguire (AKA the dude who got caught beating it in a parking lot). Anyways, there's definitely times to take hacks, 2-0, 3-1 counts stuff like that. In this case its rediculous. Situational hitting is pretty much dead, even though it's one the most valuable assets a player can have.
