Stealing signs

Stealing signs

So the LA Angels and Red Sox had a blow up before their game yesterday with the Angels complaining that a Red Sox coach was "Stealing Signs" - not using any mechanical device or camera, just paying close attention and deciphering.

I have never understood this logic, why would you NOT decipher your opponent's attempts sign language to gain an advantage if you can? It's not against any rules and if opponents can steal your signs, your system isn't difficult enough to decipher, stop whining and do better

Re: Stealing signs

Agree. My question to the Sox would be, "So, you guys don't try to steal signs?" I guess they are just mad the Halos are better at it.

Re: Re: Stealing signs

The "Halos" are the ones complaining.

Re: Stealing signs

Saw an interesting vid the other day. Craig Kimbrell came in up 3 and gave up a leadoff double , the runner was relaying signs so Kimbrell balked him on purpose to 3rd and saved the game.

Re: Re: Stealing signs

I remember a time when players stealing signs from 2nd base would end up with a baseball in their ear their next AB. I guess they frown on that now and you can only use harsh language.
