Politics?

Politics?

Guy- I respect your decision to refrain from political postings on the boards- given this, however, I must ask: why on earth am I getting bombarded with Simone Biles stance on abortion... it is literally right beside the message box as I type this- this is directly contradictory to the "politics neutral" stance of the site- would attach a screenshot but the message board does not offer this option

Re: Politics?

Guy can answer this himself, but it is one of the downsides of having ads and ad-like content on a site. You have little to no control over what the ad network is showing your users.

I am still holding out hope that someday there will be a subscription level that allows you to not have the ads and videos shown to you.

Re: Re: Politics?

The only control I think Guy has are over ads for a political party or candidate.Maybe he could delete or block political statements by celebreties but it would be a waste of time. What do they know anyway? They have a right to be stupid but it just turns people off so it doesn't help them or their cause at all, does exactly the opposite. Fans are boycotting, hitting them in the pocketbook which all they understand. The smart ones keep their mouth shut.
The best thing we can do with politicians is ridicule them;it's fun ,they deserve it and it should be allowed. Bitter opinions NOT!

Re: Politics?

Mark is right. The ad networks show what they show. We’re nearing voting season so political ads are going to be common and the irony is the more political of a person you are the more likely you are to see political ads, and ironically those are the people also most likely to be offended by them.

Re: Re: Politics?

I wouldn't say I'm offended by them. They are like all other ads, annoying. What does offend me and many other fans are celebrities mixing sports with politics. They just damage themselves, their team and the league

Re: Re: Politics?

You were the one introducing politics to the board and screaming about "sjw's". You make me look like the picture of civility, bud.

Re: Politics?

The all time worst had to be when I was looking to make a trade with an owner named thurmanmunsonbb. At the top of the page was an ad for a private jet for sale. Either that was a coincidence or a very bad joke

Re: Politics?

I can't tell you what a single ad is for that pops up on this site, "political" or not. It's so easy to tune them out; there's no sound and I do what I need to do on any given page and move on to the next. If ads are what it takes to keep this site free, I'm all for the ads

Re: Re: Politics?

Google or whatever web browser you use controls the ads they show based on your search tendencies/history and location. There's only so much Guy can do.

Re: Politics?

Imagine how sick I am of being asked in that same box if I want Trump back in '24 !! I don't even like the football clips that it plays......

Re: Politics?

The ads could be for politics, sex toys, robots or religion for all I care. Doesn’t really bother me, we know Guy is making a little from them so we can have a dreamland to share with other sports geeks. Regardless of what it is, I click on them from time to time. I’m not sure that it helps but in my mind it does. :)
Carry on Guy, carry on.

Re: Re: Politics?

You got that right. By whatever means necessary

Re: Politics?

Its funny, the ads that are deemed "stupid" or "offensive" are the ones the individual users are opposed to. Cant we just look the other way?
Just because the ad is there it is not required to click on or even look at. It keeps a free site free.

Re: Re: Politics?

i usually ignore them but the whole thurman munson thing makes me think these are not just random. will never forget that day as a kid when i heard the news , then the yanks had to play a game. hated the yanks then but was rooting for them that day

Re: Re: Politics?

I do ignore them. I don't really care since they support the site. Just do not need to hear some idiot celebrities opinon. No more valuable than anyone else, probably less. Keep politics out of sports

Re: Politics?

All I hear from celebrities when they talk about politics is "I live in a bubble surrounded by like minded friends and I have no clue what's going on, but i crave attention so badly, I have to spew nonsense about things I know nothing about"...

Re: Re: Politics?

ZEEDOOD you just described all of twitter, facebook and the entirety of cable news, regardless of its partisan affiliation. Basically, your quote sums up 90% of America, not just celebs.

Re: Politics?

Yeah, but if we didn't have celebrities doing it, a lot fewer people would be.

Re: Re: Politics?

Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often, and for the same reason...

Re: Politics?

If it were left to the “shut up and dribble crowd” baseball would still be segregated and Jackie Robinson would have never played in the big leagues.

Re: Re: Politics?

We all have the right to speak our minds and have our voices heard. Why should an athlete be restricted from that right?

Re: Politics?

This is my guy!

8 goals in a hockey game for Vlad Poutine...

Even in hockey, there is no opposition to Poutine....

What about a friendly... but not so friendly hockey game!

Not only can't the goaltender speak up... but he won't even stop the puck....

Poor guy who installed the red carpet at the end....
