Days off granted in playoffs

Days off granted in playoffs

Hi sportsfans
I am wondering if reducing rest days needed for pitchers from the usual 4 days to 2 days (in Commish tools) might eliminate the need to manually grant days off for travel? Any insight on that from you smarter folks out there.
Cheers
Spaniels

Re: Days off granted in playoffs

Not sure why you'd drop from 4 days off to 2 days off (instead of 3 days off), but the theory seems logical.

Position players don't fatigue in the playoffs, so changing the pitchers' days off wouldn't affect the hitters.

An alternative method (though more busy work) is to make all 5-game series 7 games and all 7-game series 9 games, then delete the games for the days you want those teams to have off days. So, for instance, for a 2-3-2 seven-game series, you'd build a 9-game series, then delete Game 3 and Game 7 from the series, leaving you with seven games and the built-in off days.

The great chickenheads (in MLB: The Show), I believe, uses this method. I didn't ask him, but it's the only way I see to build off days into a series, and all his playoff series have the off days built-in from the start. It's a lot of work at the start of the playoff round, but, once the series is built, there's nothing more for the Commish to do until the next round starts.

Re: Days off granted in playoffs

Im in a league with Spaniels where this recently came up.

I get that it's more realistic and gets the better pitching talent more time on the mound, but it rewards top heavy teams and possibly discourages (or at least doesn't reward) depth.

There's multiple ways to do just about anything here on PC, in my league I just grant two days off between series and the rest of the games are on your entire staff to pull through.

Neat idea building a longer series and deleting a couple games, wouldn't have thought of that approach. Thinking outside the box maybe you could schedule in days where the Rookie Team plays an exhibition against the somebody not in the post-season, depending on your league set-up? I don't have much experience schedule playoffs and the few I've run were brutally simple.

Re: Re: Days off granted in playoffs

Interesting idea: so you have to delete the ‘game’ as it arrives or at the start of the series?

Re: Days off granted in playoffs

Delete the games immediately after you build the series.

In Create & Edit Schedule, there's "Option 2: Modify Current Games..." with a link [Click here to modify individual games on full unplayed schedule.], that will give you a list of every series and game scheduled.

PS: In Option 1, the bottom choice, [Add this matchup as a seven-game series (home team is home games 1-2 and 6-7) more options...]. Click the "more options" link to build the 9-game series. Building multiple series is fast once you get the hang of the "more options" because you set the series to build using "Team 1" and "Team 2", then you can build multiple series quickly just by changing which teams are designated as "Team 1" and "Team 2." After the series are all built, then immediately go to Option 2 and delete whatever games will give you the off-days you desire.

Re: Re: Days off granted in playoffs

I like that idea. I usually have to rely on my memory to grant a day off after games 2 and 5.
I guess you still have to delete the remaining games in a series once a team wins 4 if it doesn't go seven.

Re: Days off granted in playoffs

Yes, you will still have to delete remaining games for series that do not go seven.
