I am terrible...

I am terrible...

I do not believe it is possible to do worse than my teams...even if I tried. I am sure all are rolling in their graves.

Signed,

Obviously Clueless.

Re: I am terrible...

You're not alone.

Across 8 leagues, I'm 4-12 in my last 16 games.

Of these 8 leagues, only two are over .500 - one is 5-4 and another is 18-13.
Every other of my remaining 6 teams is 0.500, with one team even being 3-16.

This game is definitely teaching me patience ...

Re: Re: I am terrible...

I would definitely not use a Fungo Bat in Pennant Chase there FungoKing! but hang in there, make sure you draft for need and have picks in for the Supplemental Draft, it's really important.

Also pay attention to DWar, and speed as well as Rank, good defense makes your pitchers better and non slow guys increase your odds of scoring as well.

Re: I am terrible...

i have a team that is 4-13

Re: I am terrible...

For you newbies out there. Be patient, it is a long season. Just because you start out cold doesn’t mean your season is toast. If you want some hope, I had one of mine start out 3 and 17 before it turned around. By the end of the season I had 115 wins and the top seed. This Sim is a game of streaks just like the real thing. Sometimes all it takes is a small tweak to your lineup to make a huge difference in the win column.

Re: Re: I am terrible...

Thanks for the encouragement, perhaps I have been tweaking too much and should just let the lineup ride for awhile.

Re: I am terrible...

if anyone cares the team is 4-17

Re: I am terrible...

Hey bud. Hang in there, we've all been through it one way or another. The fact that your still here, and haven't given up yet, speaks volumes. You'll most likely find success in the near future if you make the effort to learn more about how to "play the game" 🙂👍

Err... You know what I mean 😅😂

Re: I am terrible...

Believe me, I have had PLENTY of auto league squads that I thought looked good on paper, but ultimately bombed in a fantastically horrid way. It happens, just learn what may (or may not) have gone wrong (or right) with the strategy used in drafting your team (especially in Fav teams leagues, if you choose to attempt those) and move on. Remember bud, the goal is to have fun, not to succeed every time

Re: Re: I am terrible...

Like FungoKing said ... perhaps too much tweaking.

One fella that really helped me out mentioned that he doesn't really start making changes until game 40. Letting his projected lineup settle in.

Since my last post, we are 15-4 in the last 19 games, included a monster 5-5 with 3 HR and 9 RBI for Todd Helton. (And Jacob deGrom through a no-hitter, albeit with 4 BBs.)

Now that I posted that, I am sure I'll go 3-12 in my next 15. :-)

It really feels random early on ... hence my original frustration. But like the above have said, focus on dW, OBP, Speed, and /9 numbers (for pitchers).

I am addicted to seeing how many awesome defensive plays my squad makes in a game, now.

Re: Re: I am terrible...

JWBSavages - I looked at your team out of curiosity and you missed the supplemental draft and any waiver claims after. You can't expect to compete if you miss these things - in this Ruthian era league here was the first round of the supplemental draft:

Goldeyes: Arky Vaughan
Gashouse Gang: Harry Heilmann
Buccaneers: George Sisler
Americans: Tris Speaker
Commandos: Garland Braxton
Knuckleheads: Bill Terry
Gorillas: Marius Russo
Warriors: Oral Hildebrand

those are all difference makers and there were still high quality players in the following rounds. The 4 teams that didn't participate pretty much guaranteed their fate at the bottom of their divisions.

Re: I am terrible...

Hahahahaha listened to multiple tips from players- started 2 new leagues- high dwars- speed- good pitching- trounced game after game again- Cobb 2 for 29- pfiester 9 IP 3H 1 R 0W 8 K and loses- great fun!!

Re: I am terrible...

Trounced? On the team you have Cobb 2-29, you failed to mention your other top hitters have started fine as expected. Your team is 2-5 with four 1 run losses. So the Cobb team is definitely not getting trounced and that’s just an anomaly for Cobb.

That Pfeister you referred to is on a team 10 games over 500. He’s 10-6 with a 2.68 ERA. He lost 1-0 to Maddux, no shame in that. What team is getting trounced? Seems like you’re doing fine.

Re: I am terrible...

Yes quite an anomaly since his worst career slump was an 0-17 in April 1920 after which his low average for the year was 162-

Re: Re: I am terrible...

Yeah 7 games does not make a season. The Nationals started 19-31 last year.

I don't play in a ton of leagues and have been on here for years - but still have stretches where my teams aren't very good or even seasons where teams aren't very good. The fun is considering all the variables and battling all the other smart people here who are doing the same. Take a breath - keep analyzing and let some games play out - enjoy the process.
