Why don’t certain states have mlb teams

Why don’t certain states have mlb teams

A few minutes ago I was wondering why certain states don’t have mlb teams, I mean Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky seem like reasonable places to me (heck maybe my home state of West Virginia could have one, and even though there’s not a lot of people here there is a lot of mlb fans around who think we need a team, even myself)

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

It's all about the money, my friend. Even some big cities haven't been able to keep their franchises (Montreal comes to mind, and Indianapolis, Buffalo and others if you go way back, plus Washington has been on again off again through history). First you need an owner who has a kajillion dollars. Then you need enough of a population base to ensure that you'll be able to keep a team for years to come. And a stadium. Etc. etc.

If you want a franchise in West Virginia, the first step is probably to become a kajillionaire, and then go from there. Good luck!!

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

I say we can somehow get someone like randy moss to help pitch in

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

Don't you have a couch to burn or something? You want MLB in West Virginia? I know y'all just got indoor toilets but slow down a little and cut down on the Mountain Dew!

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Hey, why you throwin' Mountain Dew under the bus??? Harsh!
That's a staple up here in Canada.

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Actually, we don’t have couches to burn (at least until college football begins)

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

You tell him, Kid!
Wait. You don't have couches??
No MLB and no couches?
That is one sad State of affairs.
No wonder the teachers go on strike all the time!!
Lol

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

We have em but our college basketball teams suck

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

We haven’t found a good use for couches since the wv-tx football game

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

WV biggest city is Charleston has a population of 51,000 and the entire state has 1.8 million. 1) Is there some billionaire to finance the team?
2) Will the state support a team? 3) is there a stadium ready to go?

Let's get real here, I would think there's other cities and states that would stand a better chance of truly supporting a team. Omaha hosts the college world series every year and its metro area ( including Iowa) is around 700,000.

I don't think MLB will be expanding soon. Better chance is moving teams instead and I doubt West Virginia is high on the list.

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

1. I’m sure we could get people like randy moss and jerry west
2. Most people love sports
3. We can find a way to get funding for a stadium

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

This whole article wasn’t about West Virginia, there were states like Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee in the original argument

True and you could add Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Hawaii, North and South Dakota, Mississippi, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and even Louisiana to the List-

New Orleans could certainly sustain a Baseball team, they have Basketball and Football already.

However even The KC Royals have trouble filling their stadium (unless they are in the playoffs) and most of the states Mentioned have one of two main issues

1) Not enough population to sustain it
2) They love College sports and don't like Pro Sports

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

Why North Dakota but not Virginia

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Virginia IS listed. But what about ALASKA???? That would be so COOL! (literally) lol

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

First off, I misread your comment

Secondly having a team in Alaska is like the postseason without the dodgers getting absolutely destroyed

It doesn’t make sense

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Another reason for no baseball team in WV, the people tend to repeat themselves a lot.

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

I only hit send once, it must have lagged and did it twice

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Some of those states have independent or minor league baseball organizations; so it's not like baseball isn't available or wanted in those states.

But as already stated...the population is low in several states that it's unlikely that anything other than independent league baseball could be sustained.

Weather plays a huge role in a few of the states listed as well (Alaska, N & S Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, etc.)

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

The next city to land an MLB team will be Las Vegas .
NBA will head there too.

Why don’t certain states have mlb teams

Until the Reds, Indians, and Pirates all leave, WV has no chance. It is based on the surrounding region and its ability to support a team (attendance wise and viewership wise).

Las Vegas, Montreal, Portland, Charlotte, and Nashville would probably be the next cities in line to receive a franchise. MLB screwed up putting 2 teams in Florida. Florida is a spring training site and there are so many transplanted Floridians from other states, that the Rays and Marlins have no chance at a fan base. MLB will get smart and relocate the Rays before building a new stadium there and learn from their colossal mistake with the Marlins new stadium that nobody goes to.

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

I was also thinking places like Richmond and Louisville

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

This is off topic but, we do have an arena ready for an nba team

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Here's an oddity, the Carrier Dome where Syracuse plays is the largest Domed Stadium on a College campus, the naming rights are owned by Carrier Air Conditioning, and it's NOT air conditioned, HOW DUMB IS THAT

Re: Why don’t certain states have mlb t

The Dunkin Donuts Center resides in Providence and contains a Dunkin Donuts within the arena, however, they do not accept Dunkin Donuts gift cards!

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Same thing at the Super Stop & Shop near where I am -that's silly

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Sincity, Kansas City is located in Missouri so be sure to add that miserable dump called kansas to the list of states that do not have a MLB franchise or a professional team of any kind. Even better the most popular attraction in kansas is a furniture shop called Nebraska Furniture Mall, followed closely by the worlds largest prairie dog and the house of mud. The only thing that ever came out of that poor excuse for a state is Interstate 70. Like every true Missouri resident will tell you NEVER capitalize the k in kansas unless it's followed by the words City, Missouri.

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

What’s wrong with Kansas

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

I'm pretty sure the world's biggest ball of yarn is in Kansas, as well as a Wizard of Oz museum, so that's something. Never been there, that's just what I've heard on the grapevine. So not sure Kansas really needs a pro sports team with those two attractions. Lol

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Toto, we aren’t in Kansas anymore...

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

I was thinking cities like Louisville, Richmond and Nashville would be able to have a team

Re: Why don’t certain states have m

Actually there is Kansas City in both Mo and KS

Re: Re: Why don’t certain states have m

You are correct the main Kansas City is in Missouri KCK is just a suburb. Most of which is areas you shouldn't be after dark.
