Fire Ratings

Fire Ratings

Say two players have identical real stat lines and both players face the same exact "average" pitchers for the entire season and have the same number of at bats. I'd expect them both (over a large enough sample size!) to perform at roughly those stat lines.

Again, I know sample size is an issue, but I'm setting that as a baseline for my question...

If they're exactly the same, but one has a higher Fire rating, he'd be on fire more frequently... and so would his compiled stats at the end of the year be better, by the increased time he was on fire?

Or will the season stats converge for those two players over the full season, regardless of the fire rating? (Which I guess would mean that the increase in "fire" would also mean an increase in "going cold" to average out at the same numbers?)

I hope that question is understood. Many thanks!

Re: Fire Ratings

I guess another way to phrase the question...

If a hitter has a .300 average and an "On Fire" rating of 10...

Does that mean when the compiler runs... that for 90% of the time, the simulator will count him as a .300 hitter and for 10% of the time, he'll be counted as a, say... .400 hitter?

Or will it do something like count him as a .290 hitter for 90% of the games and then a .400 hitter for 10% of the games, so his "average" number the sim uses is .300?

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

It will not balance. All things created equal, take the greater on fire rating.

Re: Fire Ratings

It doesn’t work the way you said. The player won’t be on fire 10% of the time. It means he has 10% chance of being on fire if no other hitter on team is already on fire . The sim goes through the lineup, in order, one at a time. Once a batter is determined to be on fire, it stops checking. You can only have one hitter on fire per game. Sometimes no hitters end up on fire. Pitchers are separate.

But the answer to your question is if everything was equal, you take the guy with higher fire since he has more chance of being on fire any given game.

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

Thank you for both answers.

Sounds good. "All stats exactly equal except fire" -- take the guy with higher Fire... he'll have better compiled stats at year end. (Over large enough sample size.)

And thanks for the extra note on the "one player per team on fire." That's good to know as well.

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

There is ALWAYS a batter " ON Fire" during each game, sometimes he can be on your bench though and when he enters the game he gets On Fire. So if you opt to never Pinch hit, you may lose an opportunity to have an On Fire hitter enter a game late, and perhaps make a difference

With Pitchers it does not display that they are on Fire anywhere, except in the headlines after the game on the League Home Page

Re: Fire Ratings

No it’s not always. If no hitter is on fire from starting lineup, when a new position player enters, the sim checks them for on fire. It does not automatically make at least one player on fire.

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

Sorry, I was told that there is always an " On Fire" Hitter each game, with the caveat I used, I guess I was miss-informed

Re: Fire Ratings

I don't even use on fire for my decision making to be honest... I've already won just over 10,000 games, and am just a few spots out of the top 100 in auto leagues this year (5 to be exact), but I have never used the on fire number at any point. Now this isn't to say it isn't valuable, I just don't understand how it is implemented and used (and probably never will lol), so I never bothered with it. But that's just me... 😁

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

Well, I've only won 174,000 games on this site, but I ALWAYS factor in a players Fire rating - players and pitchers.

Re: Fire Ratings

Don't worry Sheik I can take some teasing and trash talk, but I can also dish it right back out again, just ask Gus about his All Yankees League's chat box! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

I think, Skooler, that a better response to the Sheik would have been - β€œWell to be fair we should also compare losses. How many of those have you got?” 🀣🀣🀣
(it’s a lot) 😳😳😳🀣🀣🀣

Re: Re: Fire Ratings

Ummmm tops in wins (all time), a .591 win % (all time), a loss total this year alone higher than my wins all time, and to match that last part, a .600+ win % during this year himself! πŸ€”πŸ™‚πŸ€―

I actually never checked that until now lol. I admit you've impressed me over here Sheik. I knew you were one of the top dogs but I didn't realize you're actually the king dog πŸ‘

Edit: If you are king dog, does that make Guy the god dog? 🀣🀣🀣

Re: Fire Ratings

Yeah, I'm actually 9th in losses !!! Top 10 baby !!!
