Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

I hope there would be some way in the future to fix the unearned run issue that leaves a pitcher in-game even after giving up many runs because he has not given up the pre-set EARNED runs. I just lost a playoff game I was ahead 4-3 when an error was committed and then another... then my pitcher started giving up hits until the other team was ahead 8-4...and he finally gave up the 5 earned runs I had pre-set in strategy. In actuality, that pitcher would have been pulled when he started giving up hits. I was screaming at the replay..."Take the pitcher out!' It was deflating. I know it is CPU run and only so much can be done...but in a playoff game I NEVER would have left the pitcher in but he stayed in until he had given up 8 runs total. I hope I don't sound too negative because I live this sim. Just pointing out something that is not a good scenario and left me staring dumbfounded at my screen that this guy just kept pitching hit after hit and unearned run after unearned run. Love this sim and the players that compete so well. Maybe the answer is to set a system to remove pitchers at a pre-set total of UNEARNED and earned runs. I mean,,, you can be ahead 4 zip and a couple of errors occur and the pitcher starts giving up hits and can stay in for 8 or 9 runs allowed even when you want him pulled after 5 runs. No manager would leave a player in the game under the scenario I laid out. Ever. Anyway...there's my beef. Hope I don't piss anyone off by venting about it :) I actually had one game where Steve Carlton gave up 14 runs before he was removed because my team kept committing errors and then he would give up hits, I think he gave up 14 hits also. Never would have ever occurred in any baseball game real or imagined and I really hope it can be addressed...because this happens to all of us and can affect an entire season as it did in my case..

"No manager would leave a player in the game under the scenario I laid out. Ever."
A quick search leads to this actual box score from the era that you're talking about when the immortal Walter Johnson was left in to give up 15 hits, 9 runs, and 5 earned runs in a World Series game.

Re: Re: Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

Trying to prove a point by using the most obvious outlier event to justify it is not very helpful. It’s like saying I was playing Blackjack and had 18 but the dealer had a 10 showing so I hit and got a 3!!! Nice, hit, try doing it a lot. Do Managers leave pitchers in to “ take one for the team” occasionally? In real life, yes, in the SIM not so much - on the other side though, do you want to burn through your entire bullpen in a pretty obviously lost cause? Did the original poster think an RP would have done any better? In fairness to the SP ERRORS are the real issue, a pitcher gives up a leadoff single, next guy Pops up, next hits a tailor made DP ball that the IF boots and now there's men on the corners 1 out, he should have been out of that inning, it messes with a pitchers head and he gets to fine or tries to blow it past the next guy who promptly doubles, and it snowballs from there, it happens all the time in both real life and the SIM, it sux when it is happening, but that's Baseball.

By the way, VERY next game I simmed - I had Clemens...

Re: Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

My only issue is during the snowballing part...my pitcher gave up 3 more hits and 5 runs before the inning was over. In baseball...9 times out of 10 the pitcher gets pulled after a couple of hits errors or not...in a single-elimination playoff game! But I saw my 4-2, 8th-inning playoff game lead vanish and the pitcher stayed in the game for the next inning also...so I ended up with a complete game 8-4 loss. Yes, your reasoning and conclusions are correct, but it does not strictly adhere to my contention or situation.
and...Yes, I can be annoying.

Re: Re: Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

It happens. In fact it happened earlier this week when the st louis cardinals beat the nationals 29-8 !! Check out the box score from that game , there was a relief pitcher who was left in to give up 10 runs. Yes it's spring training but still take the guy out , end his misery

Re: Pitchers not pulled by CPU...

Redshawk - your idea of changing the setting for pulling starting pitchers to something like pull pitcher after 4 earned runs or 6 unearned runs is a good one.

But I think it gets buried when you use ALL CAPS and make statements like "In baseball...9 times out of 10 the pitcher gets pulled after a couple of hits errors or not...in a single-elimination playoff game!"

That might be true in 2022 but certainly hasn't been true throughout the history of baseball. This box score is completely reasonable for a deadball era playoff game
