Re: Re: Pinch hitting

Re: Re: Pinch hitting

Agree with SCM. Never like to see a guy on Fire replaced by a pinch hitter. If batter on fire hasn't done squat all game, then he surely will his next at bat due to the law of averages! And, if guy on fire has been crushing all game, then he surely will his next at bat, too, because he is on fire!

There's no winner in the batter on fire being replaced by someone slightly better in Real Stats, at least not in the psychological ramblings of a GM/fan as the game is being watched.

Re: Pinch hitting

As usual Sol deflects his disagreement to a stance with a tongue in cheek, blurb, seemingly to agree with me, but actually disagreeing and trying to make my opinion seem silly.

I'm not saying I am right and in fact said that.

I still don't like seeing a guy ON FIRE pitch hit for, it may it be silly and just psychological but, I see a LOT of Wild Pitches - Hit Batsman and errors occur when a hitter is on fire A LOT -

Are Wild Pitches, errors and Hit Batsman supposed to happen more often when a hitter is On Fire?

I would say YES on HBP, because its part of OBP and No to the others but it sure doesn't seem that way

Re: Pinch hitting

None of that has any bearing on WP. If a pitcher had 10 WP in 100 innings then there will be a 10% chance of throwing one each inning. There’s no way anything else goes into that in the code, it’s strictly based on the pitchers stats. There’s no hitter ‘causes wild pitches’ stat.

Also, of course I’d want a bad on fire hitter pinch hit for by someone better (than the fire stats).

Re: Pinch hitting

WP, HB nor error are impacted by on fire. On fire is really only increasing the chances of the offensive player getting a hit (or a walk). The error happens when the batter has already “rolled” an out.

Re: Re: Pinch hitting

Say what, SCM? That's a pretzel of logic.

I agreed with you, 100%. I said it a different way. I always want the guy on Fire staying in the game.

It does occur that the pinch hitter is the one on fire, but that would fit perfectly into the concept that the hitter on fire is never pulled.

Re: Pinch hitting

Say what Sol?? Are you saying I can't read between the Lines?

Pretzel Logic? that album is from the mid 70's Big hit was " Ricky don't lose that number" but as "Any major Dude will tell you" it wasn't their best Album - My wife's girl friend said she likes their Music, but I think Katie Lied. I'm going out Shoes shopping now because I have some Bad Sneakers

I trust you and Steely Dan had a nice Thanksgiving....
