Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

Top 7 in a one run game, surprise bunt is ok in my book. Just trying to get the best basestealer on base to tie the game.

Re: Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

I agree, unfortunate it ended up being the only hit,but it was appropriate, especially with a guy like Henderson who was going to try to Steal and get into scoring position to tie it up.

Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

It’s ok but unfortunately for Ichiro, my next pitch goes in his ear. πŸ‘

Remind me not to invite Hicksy to my next lawn dart tournament! 😳😳😁😁😁

Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

7th inning on, you don't break up a no hitter with a bunt, next behind Ichiro back, Henderson next bat, the sound of 93mph fast ball hitting helmet.

Someone a few years back broke up no hitter/perfect game with a bunt and people weren't to happy

Re: Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

I have no problem with the bunt. The idea is to get on base to put pressure on the pitcher and defense. When pitchers have no base runners, they are relaxed, pitching out of the windup, and have no distractions. Once there is a baserunner, he has to go to the stretch and divert some of his focus onto the baserunner. You are not trying to win if you don't try the surprise bunt. Shame on the defense for not being better prepared to stop a bunt hit with a player with Henderson's speed.

Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

There’s never an issue with a bunt if the game is close.

Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

Down 1 run, fastest player in MLB history up to bat, you could argue to NOT bunt would be wrong.

Re: Re: unwritten rules of Baseball?

Agreed - the object is to win.
