General Rules

League Activity

Owners are required to be active in this league. This league has many features that owners need be to active in order to benefit from. Certain tasks need to be done every season. With this in mind, if an owner doesn't log on for a month, they will be booted without warning. Any action needing to take place with their teams may be done by the Commissioners.

If it is noticed that an owner is signing on. But not paying any attention to the league (not working on roster, not responding to league emails) for a long period of time, they will also be booted without warning.

Seasonal Schedule

Spring Training

Schedule will begin with a 30 game Spring Training, simulated over 3 real life days.(10 games simulated per day.) This will give GM's a chance to,

a. Test out some of their top prospects and see if they are MLB ready, without risking them losing Prospect status(to be explained in Player Development section.)

b. Try out some other players to get an idea of what to expect from them during the year. Of course, baseball is a unpredictable game, so you never know how players will turn out in any given year.

After spring training completes, there will be at least one day of no sims, in preparation for Opening Day. Owners should take this time to adjust rosters, demote players that they want to develop in the minors, and set opening day lineups and rotations.

Regular Season

Regular season will consist of a 162 game regular season, made up of 3 game series. Randomized yearly. 6 games will be simulated per day

After game 84, an All-Star break will commence, and we will award the All-Star players with a star, but no actual All-Star game will be played.

After game 102, this is when the Trade deadline is, and beginning game 103, trading will not be allowed until the day after the World Series.

After game 162, the playoff teams will then be finalized, and playoffs will begin. There will be 3 division winners, and 2 wild card winners per league.

Playoffs

After the regular season, the qualifying teams will then participate in the post season. All rounds are 1 for each league, except the World Series. This consists of

Two Wild Card games between the two Wild Card Teams
Four 5-game LDS between Wild Card winner and the No. 1 seed team, and another between the 2 and 3 seed teams.
Two 7-game LCS between the winners of the LDS games. Winners will receive an NL/AL Pennant for their team(in the form of a star.)
One 7-game World Series between the winner of the ALCS and the winner of the NLCS, the winner of this series is declared the World Champion for that year, and will receive a trophy and a championship ring.

The MVP, Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year awards will then be awarded to the respective players, by the Commissioner.

That marks the end of the baseball season.

Off-Season

Then begins the off-season. Players age, contracts advance, stats are cleared, and players whose contracts expire, enter the free agent pool. Trading is re-opened, and teams begin building for the next season. They do so through several Off-Season phases.

Free Agent Period

The Free Agency Period takes place in the form of an auction. The league uses a forum set up and moderated by the Co-Commissioner, the link to it can be found under the Links drop down menu. Owners can use this to make their contract offers. They can make an account on the forum, or make bids as a guest. Those who are guests can use a fake e-mail, and for the name, put the name of your team. Those who make an account have a slight advantage, as they have the ability to receive e-mail notifications for when someone tops your contract offer.

We will be using a forum style. Each player will have its own "Topic." For example, let's say the best starting pitcher on the market is Bob Ross. That player will have his topic entitled, "SP Bob Ross"

If you are the first person to bid on such a player, you may have to start the topic. You do not need to make an account to do so, you will be able to be a guest and start the topic. However, you must specify which team you are in your bid. For example,

The Oakland Athletics offer SP Bob Ross a 4 Year, 15M dollar contract.

That will be translated as a 4 year contract, making 15M per season. A 60M total value.

Now to top that bid, you will have to do one of two things...

1. Top the total value of the contract. For example,

A 2 year, 20M dollar contract would not top that. Even though it is a higher annual value, the total contract value is 40M, which is 20M less.

A 4 year, 17M dollar contract would top the above contract. Then you would be the leading bidder.

2. Match the total value, but over fewer years. For example,

A 3 Year, 20M dollar contract would top the above contract, since it is an equal total amount, but a higher annual value.

3. If the free agent finished the prior season with your team before becoming a free agent, you are able to match any offer and be considered the top bidder.

The Topic usually will be the first offer. If you wish to top an offer, what you will do is Reply to the topic of the player you want to bid on. You will also see an example of what a player topic will look like.

If you are starting the topic, please title the topic with the player's position, and first and last name. (SP Bob Ross) or (2B Tom Cruise)

Try not to start duplicate topics on the same player. There is a search function where you can search for the player's name and see if a topic has been started already.(That's one reason why I ask to title the Topics with position and names.) If there is a duplicate, it will be ignored. The original bid will be honored, even if the secondary bidding is much higher, or received more attention.

In your contract offers, do not offer any yearly raises.

Also, the player must be able to live out the contract. You can not offer a 10 year contract to a 37 year old who will retire when he is 38. If this is done, the value of the money for the remainder of the contract will be transferred to another player's contract. The team will still have to pay that money.

After a bid is placed, a team must top the contract with more money/years within 24 hours, if not, that player has been signed.

The minimum bid is 5M salary for 1 year. All contracts must have at least 5M yearly salary.

This will take place over about a week. Teams will have a 200M budget, so keep this in mind if offering a high contract that you may be stuck with for some time. It can be difficult keeping a nucleus of good players when you have one bloated one that you have to eat.
Note: If you are over the over the 200M budget prior to the new season starting, you will lose your 2nd round draft pick for the next draft or 3rd if you do not own your 2nd. Worst-case scenario, you lose your 1st if you do not own either.

Players will be assigned to the team during the free agency, for those offers who have made it 24 hours without being topped, and the rest shortly after free agency. The Commissioner is responsible for assigning free agents.

Rookie Draft

Shortly after the Free Agency Period, the Rookie Draft will begin. About 150 20 year old players will then be added, and a 3 round draft will commence. The draft order will be decided based on your W-L record of the following year, the worst picking first.

After the draft, a few days will be allowed, the auto-draft phase will commence for those who have less than 23 total players. Normal free agency will open back up and you can make any last minute adjustments to your team before Spring Training.

Building a Team

Building a team is one of the fundamentals of being a GM of a baseball team. All owners obviously want to compete, and make their team stronger. This league provides several avenues for owners to do that. But first, some generic rules...

All teams can have 25 on the major league roster and 15 in their minor league system
All teams have a 200M budget for contracts
There are no cap to the amount of contracts
Contracts cannot be extended in this league

Most contracts signed will be either the Rookie Contract, or a contract offered during the free agency period.(information regarding Rookie Contract found below)

Below you will see information regarding Player Development and Drafts. Free Agency is another method, discussed earlier. In order to build a very strong team that's capable of competing for seasons at a time, and perhaps even being known as a Dynasty, an owner needs to take advantage of all the methods of roster building. You can't sign 25 good players to contracts,(you likely won't have the budget) and you can't develop 25 good players(you likely won't have the time)

Player Development

One of the big focuses with our league, is building a dynasty. A good GM will do this through player development. You may currently have up to 15 players in your minors during the season. These players will be progressed 1 additional time, without aging them, during the regular season, unlike your major league team. It is recommended that you put players who are not MLB ready in the minors, and they will improve at a faster rate. It is also recommended that these players be younger, at the very least younger than 28. If players in your minors are 29 and older, they will get WORSE through progression.(I say it's because they are being sick in the minors at that age!)

You can keep players in your minors who have not played at the major league level for free, no contract needed. As long as they maintain their rookie status(under 130 ML AB, or 50 ML IP over their career) they will have the Prospect tag on them. Tagged players will be kept, and when the next season begins, those tags will be cleared. All Prospect tags have to be re-applied every season.

When you feel as though your prospect is ready and you want to start him, you may sign him to a Rookie Contract. The Rookie Contract is as follows:

5 Year, 2M Contract With a 3M Annual Raise

Year 1: 2M
Year 2: 5M
Year 3: 8M
Year 4: 11M
Year 5: 14M
Year 6: 17M(the expiring year)

After that rookie contract expires, then they enter the free agency pool that year. If you want to keep them, you will have to win them in the auction. However, remember, if you are the former team, you can MATCH someone else's offer and you would be considered the leader.(as mentioned in the Off-Season section) You can offer non-auction contracts to players picked up through regular free agency as well.(which is opened following the rookie draft.)

All players will be progressed at the end of the world series, being the first time for your major league players, and the second time for your farm system, this time, they will also be aged one year.

All players under 29 will steadily improve, all players older will steadily decline.

Rookie Draft

Players created for the rookie draft will purposely be created in such a way so that they aren't ready to start on your team right away. All rookies drafted really will benefit from some time in the minors to develop.

Players will retire at the age of 38.

Trading

Trading will be unlimited, and allowed throughout the season, except between Game 102 and the final game of the World Series. You can trade any player, you can trade multiple prospects for a big time player, or whatever you feel your team needs.

You may also trade draft picks for that year's draft. Each team has a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd rounder than can be traded if desired. If this is done, both GM's must inform the Commissioner of the details of the trade, and the draft pick will be traded, and player(s) traded if needed.

Rule 5 Draft

Finally, there will be a Rule 5 Draft period. This is optional, and in no particular order. While preparing for Spring Training, GM's can scout out other teams Farm Systems for players to draft to your team. Here are the requirements.

They must NOT be signed to a contract.
They must be at least 25 or older
AND/OR
They must be 90 rank or above.
You must sign them to a rookie contract upon drafting them.

Only one player can be picked per team. If you are interested in picking a player, you have about two days to fill out the form. It will be on the home page as a reminder, but GM's will not receive personal reminders, since there is no draft order.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
