League Rules
Welcome to Favorite Team: Decade Duel, where great teams from the 13 decades of the modern era face-off… with some fun twists.Draft: 2 round snake draft
Round 1: select a decade
Round 2: select a franchise
Pick a team from your franchise and decade (example: 1990s Yankees could select 1998 Yankees). Your ballpark dimensions will be based on the team’s actual park effects for the season you chose*.
Change seasons: all players on your team/year with 1+ AB or IP will be imported. You can keep at least 26 of them and change to any season of their career (as long as it is 125+ AB, 85 IP for SP, or 35 IP for RP; for 2020 a pitcher qualified as a SP if they have 55+ IP). Some early decade teams may not have enough RP. In that case, we can convert SP of the owner’s choice to RP.
Pick a plus player: each team can also add one player from franchise history and use any season that player played for the franchise (plus players are different than regular members of the team, who may use any season)
Two way players:
You’re the 2022 Angels. Ohtani is on your team and he both pitched and hit that season, so you can have both a pitcher AND a hitter version on your team and the pitcher and hitter can be different seasons.
You’re the 1927 Yankees. Ruth only hit that season, you can switch to any season, including pitcher, but can only have one Ruth. If you want both pitcher and hitter, you must use your plus player.
You are the 1982 Angels. You are adding Ohtani as a plus player. You can add a pitcher and hitter version, but they must be from the same season (either 2021 Ohtani hitter and pitcher, OR 2022 Ohtani hitter and pitcher).
In all cases, the hitter version must play DH (I’ll switch his position to DH)
Season:
154 games
Balanced schedule: 14 games vs each opponent
The top 4 teams in the league make the playoffs.
Tie-breaker: 1-game playoff
3-way tie: best run differential gets bye, then two rounds of 1-game playoffs
Playoffs:
Round 1: Best of 7
1 vs 4
2 vs 3
(Seeding by record, then head to head, then differential, then Pythagorean, then runs scored)
World Series: best of 7
After the season ends:
All players are deleted and we redraft. Owners select their draft position in reverse order of record (champion picks last). For example, the last place team could choose to pick 1 and 16 each decade, or 8 and 9, etc.
Once a team-year (e.g. 1927 Yankees) is used, it cannot be used again until we reboot the league.
*Park Effects details:
I will use baseball reference single season park factors with this guide for converting them to PC dimensions
Parks factors
Big Boost (BB) >107
Mild Boost (MB) 103-107
Neutral (N): PF 98-102
Mild disadvantage (MD) 93-97
Big disadvantage (BD) <93
I will also adjust L/R if there is a large difference in LF/RF distance.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
