This goal of this league is to rewrite history with your team. We will try to stay as accurate as possible with expansion and changes made by the real life NBA.
FIRST OF ALL, if there’s a problem with another owner, the commissioner, a vice, a league problem, a complaint, etc. SEND ME (commissioner) YOUR CONCERN IN A PRIVATE MESSAGE. The chat box is not there for drama and complaints. It?s a shame that this has to go in the rules as everyone should have manners.
1. TEAM CHOICE-- We will choose teams as soon as the league fills. Draft order will be chosen at random. We will start with 1974 and progress through time with real life progressions.
2. TEAM DETAILS -- Team logos and details will be edited to reflect what they had during the time frame. If we can?t get a decent logo to look good we may make an adjustment when the time comes.
3. SEASON START -- After the final team joins and drafts, games will begin soon, and you will be notified by email. Be sure to set your lineup, strategy and team details if you haven't done so already. We will play an 82 game season. We will not have a pre-season.
4. FINAL ROSTER SIZE -- When the games begin, the roster limit will be set to a final 13 which 1 will be inactive reserve. You MUST HAVE AT LEAST 8 PLAYERS on your active list to sim games. If you do not, the commissioner must make changes to your roster in order to play the season.
5. STARTING LINE-UPS-- You must have five starters, one at every position. You are encourage to take advantage
of the wave list. This is how your team will substitute during the game.
6. TRANSACTIONS, FREE AGENCY, ETC -- There is little to no free agents in year 1. We will use the waiver wire to pick up guys from Free Agency. This is an import league. No contracts, real life progressions . In the event that we do not expand on time, Free Agency will contain those players that would have been on the expansion team. Please act responsibly. Heavy unfair trading or dropping star players could get you banned from the league or possibly other sanctions against your team. ?Protected Picks?- protected picks are ok, if you trade and protect a pick, your pick for the following year will be held until your protected pick has been decided. You can protect a pick as a ?Top 3?, ?Top 5? ?Lottery? or anything within reason.
7. DRAFT ? After the playoffs each season, we will import the rookies who came into the league for that season. They will be added to Free Agency and we will have a live draft to place the players. Draft order will go from worst to first. We will draft as many rounds as we can, based on the amount of players available. If you choose to trade draft picks, you can do so but only the round 1 & 2 picks can be traded. You can only trade draft picks for the next 2 seasons out. Ex: 1973-74 season you can trade the picks from 1974 & 1975.
8. DRAFT LOTTERY — To help prevent tanking we will implement a draft lottery. Obviously this is an experimental feature so we will give it a try and see how it works. Before the draft, any team that didn?t make the playoffs will be ranked on Draftpicklottery.com and the results will be posted. It will be a weighted lottery and odds will look like this:
Team 1 (last place team)-9 balls
Team 2- 8 balls
Team 3 - 7 balls
Team 4 - 6 balls
Team 5 - 5 balls
Team 6- 4 balls
Team 7- 3 balls
Team 8- 2balls
Team 9- 1 balls
9. TRADING DEADLINE -- At the end of day 60, before the post-season, the Trade Center will close.
10. PLAYER HEALTH -- Players can get injured, the maximum days of injury will be 5 games. Players may play injured, but will be reduced to a minimum of 15%. You can see the percentages of your players likelihood of getting injured on your team roster.
11. SANDBAGGING/TANKING -- Do not attempt to place players outside of their primary or secondary positions, or you will see a high error rate. Don?t lose on purpose or ?Tank?, there will be repercussions to tanking up to being booted if it?s a reoccurring thing. If you have a question as to whether you?re tanking or not, you probably are. Let?s have fun and don?t make my job any harder than it already is.
12. POST-SEASON -- At the conclusion of the regular season, a 16 team playoff will be played. (No Byes) The Division winners will be ranked 1 & 2 (best record as the 1) teams ranked 3-8 will fall in according to rank. All series are best-of-seven in the 2-3-2 format. Team with the better seed will be the home team. In any tie situation, we go to the tiebreaker rules.
13. EXPANSION- I plan to expand as follows….
1970-1974 17
1974-1976 18 (New Orleans Jazz)
1976-1980 22 (ABA merger)(Nuggets, Pacers, Nets & Spurs)
1980-1988 23 (Mavericks)
1988-1989 25 (Heat, Hornets)
1989-1995 27 (Magic, TWolves)
If a current owner wants to take over an expansion team, guidelines are as follows:

1. You must have your 1st round picks remaining. You can’t leave your team in shambles and expect someone else to come in and pick up the pieces. (If you want the Charlotte Hornets, their first draft will be in 1988) You have to have your 88 & 89 1st rounders remaining for your current team to be eligible for taking over the expansion team.
2. Agree that all trades involving your current team will be subject to review. You can’t sell off all of your youth for all older guys and, again, leave the team a mess.
*When an expansion team is added to the league, they will get a spot in the draft for that season. They will pick at the #5 spot or #5 & #6 spots . When there’s more than one expansion team, they will pick in alphabetical order. (Heat,Hornets)
*If you have a player that’s to be drafted to an expansion team, they will leave your team when the expansion team starts playing.
*After the rookie draft, the expansion teams will finish filling their rosters to the 13 player minimum, before the leagues supplemental draft.
14. ABA/NBA Merger—
We will import the 4 teams from the ABA. They will be complete with their imported rosters. (Including a NJ Nets team with Dr J)
We WILL NOT have an ABA dispersal draft. Those players will go into the 1976 rookie draft which may make that draft have an extra round or two, possibly. The players we’re talking about here are from the Kentucky Colonels and the Spirits of St Louis teams who were not included in the merger.
ABA teams will be in the 1976 draft. Picks will be 19. Nets, 20. Nuggets, 21. Pacers, 22. Spurs
15. TRADE COMMITTEE— We have formed a trade committee that will help to police trades that seem to be collusion or if someone has been taken advantage of. If you take issue to a deal that?s been agreed on, please don?t rant in the chat box. Contact a member of the committee (BigAlRoulo, JoshBonds25 or Lordhawke) the trade committee can discuss the deal and go from there. The deal may be brought to a vote. If necessary, we will pause sims and have a league wide vote. If 80% of the league votes to overturn the trade it will be done. This is for cheating, not for the case that you just don?t agree with what someone decided to do with their team. I hope this never happens. No one should dissect every deal someone makes. It?s not for me to decide how you run your team. Don?t take advantage of someone and don?t team up with another owner. That?s basically all I?m asking here.
16. TIEBREAKERS- We will settle tiebreakers by using 1. Head-to-Head 2. Points for 3. Points Against
17. PLAYOFF EXPANSION- Due to the league taking in more teams, in the 1976-77 season we will expand the playoffs to include 12 teams. The top 2 seeds from each conference will receive a bye. The matchups will go as follows:
3v6 winner plays the 2 seed
4v5 winner plays the 1 seed
We will look at playoff expansion again in 1989^^DONE
