League Rules

NBA REPLAY 1955-1956
The league will begin with the 1955-1956 season, which is when the NBA had the least number of teams, starting with 8 teams. We don't have access to players prior to 1974 so all team's rosters will consist of players from that season. This league will use REAL progression and the rookie draft classes will be consist of real players starting with years 1975, 1976, 1977 etc. ..

Regular Season: 82 games (sim every 6 hours)
Playoffs: 6 teams - top team from each conference receives a bye the first round
Division Semi Finals: best of 3
Division Finals: best of 5
NBA Finals: best of 7
League expansion, play-off format, and salary cap will follow along with history
Trade deadline: day 60

ROSTERS
The MAX roster size is 15 players MIN of 8 players required to sim but MIN of 10 players is preferable to account for injuries. Teams can exceed roster size during the offseason but must be at or below 15 players at the start of the season (if the commish needs to step in a player(s) will be removed until team is compliant, players removed from team will be based on maintaining a balanced roster. Selecting players with least TWS not considering career TWS so teams could potentially lose a quality future player.
Teams cannot go over 15 players or max cap during the season. A player(s) without a contract would need to be cut first to stay within the 15 player roster limit.

INJURIES
-- Injuries will last a maximum of 50 games. As in real life injuries can be long term and derail a teams season. May want to look at a players injury history (real life stat) when considering between players to draft or trade. Injuries will not carry over to the next season.

SALARY CAP
Salary Cap Rules
-- The salary cap is set at $65 million.
-- The salary cap will increase by up to 10% each season (this amount will be a random draw using a random generator)
-- Cap space cannot be traded.
-- Teams exceeding the salary cap by the start of the regular season must place the player with the highest current-year contract (not total contract value) on waivers.
-- If that player clears waivers, they will be released from the team and enter free agency. The team that placed the player on waivers will be on the hook for 50% of the remaining contract for the remainder of the term (which will be deducted from the teams overall cap). If the player is claimed by another team, then the whole contract is passed on to the team that claimed the player.
-- This process will continue until the team is under the cap.
-- Teams are not allowed to exceed the salary cap during the regular season for any reason.

TRADING
-- Players and picks (up to 3 drafts ahead) can be traded
-- Trade Cap- $65 million starting salary cap
-- No protection on picks allowed

TRADE REVIEWS
-- All trades will be reviewed by the commish. The commish will step in where there are any heavily lopsided trades where it appears an owner is being taken advantage of. This could result in more compensation going from one team to the other or the trade being vetoed and players returned to their teams.

PLAYER PROGRESSION
-- REAL progression is used for this league

ROOKIE DRAFT
--The rookie draft will consist of 2 rounds starting in 1975
-- There were twice the number of teams in the 70s so the draft classes that we import will likely be used over multiple drafts.
-- This will result in quite a bit of variation in the quality of the draft classes each season.
-- Rookie draft order will be reverse order of that seasons standings with the NBA champion picking last regardless of standings placement

ROOKIE CONTRACTS
-- Rookies will be signed to rookie contracts via Pennant Chase contract feature. 4 year MAX contract.

MAX EXTENSIONS
Following the rookie contract, teams will have the option of signing players to a max extension.
-- The $ value will be 35% of the salary cap. The term can be up to a maximum of 6 years.
-- Players will enter free agency once their max extension has been fulfilled

FREE AGENCY (IN SEASON)
-- Free agents will be available to be signed to a Pennant Chase contract during the season.

FREE AGENCY (OFFSEASON)
Free agency will be done via public live bidding using the chat window. . A bid that remains the highest bid for 24 hours wins the player. Free agency will close 24-48 hours after there have been zero bids.
-- No expiring contracts
-- Maximum of 5 years

WAIVERS
-- Waivers- players will spend 24 hours on the wire - If a team claims a player on the waiver wire they claim the player outright and assume all remaining salary. This system is irrevocable on both fronts. Both the waiving team and the claiming team cannot revoke their action. If nobody claims the player, the player will be cut from your team. The waiving team will be responsible for paying for 50% of the remaining contract over the remaining duration of that contract. This amount will be deducted from their salary cap for that duration
--The waiver order will be reverse standings for the current season (or past season if in offseason). This order does not reset.

RELEASING PLAYERS
-- If you decide to release a player without placing him on waivers, they will be cut from the team while having to pay half of their salary until it expires.
-- High end players may go through a bidding process

PLAYOFFS
--Top 3 Teams from each Division make the playoffs, top team from each division receives a bye the first round.
-- First round best of 3 (increases to best of 5 in 1961)
-- Division Finals - best of 5
-- NBA Finals - best of 7
-- 2 days off will be granted prior to the 1st round and 1 day off will be granted between rounds.

OWNER INACTIVITY:
The commish will remove owners from the league that have been inactive for over 30 days. If the league goes into offseason and an owner has been inactive for 10 days or longer, the commish will contact the owner and if there is no response then the owner will be removed, This will allow the commish to temporarily take over for the team to make decisions that will prevent crippling the team long term.

TANKING
Intentional tanking will not be tolerated. It is expected that all teams remain competitive putting forth the best team possible each night. This does not include struggling teams trading aging players and contracts for future assets, as this is quite encouraged.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
