League Rules

Active owners only. If you are not online for 15 days at a time during the offseason and for 30 days at a time during the regular season, you will be booted. If you are seen not participating in the league (setting lineups, opening league-wide messages), you will be booted.

This league is complicated. It's going to take a lot of focus and dedication, but the good thing is that it won't require large chunks of time at once. We'll be doing one season per year, so you have plenty of time to get work done.

We will be using a real life calendar to run this league – but a few months behind real life to mimic the season that had just been played. This league will be exactly 238 days behind. Opening day 2024 is on March 28th, 2024, our opening day will be November 21st, 2024.

Please note – this league will not be using expiring contracts. If a player has 1 year left, it is his final year.

VI. Offseason

5 DAYS AFTER WORLD SERIES ENDS: FREE AGENCY BEGINS
Teams have an exclusive five-day negotiating window with their internal free agents. These negotiations are sent to the commish (brettphillips35) and might also be run through AI to see a player decision. Once that day passes, free agents are free to sign with any club. You can choose to extend a QO at this time. For the 2024 season, it will be $22m.

Free agency will be through the commish (brettphillips35) at any time during the offseason. Top free agent demands will be posted on the homepage.

**NOTE: QO's will not be offered in the inaugural season of this league.**

NOV. 7-9: GM MEETINGS
The annual meeting of general managers will be from Nov. 7-9.

It is at these meetings that teams have conversations with one another, often in order to begin laying the groundwork for potential trades later in the offseason.

NOV. 12: DEADLINE FOR PLAYERS TO ACCEPT OR REJECT QUALIFYING OFFER
In the qualifying offer system, clubs wishing to receive compensatory Draft picks for the loss of a free agent can make a one-year "qualifying offer," worth the mean salary of MLB's 125 highest-paid players, to their impending free agents prior to the onset of free agency if and only if:

1. That player has never received a qualifying offer previously in his career.
2. That player spent the entire season on that team's roster (in-season acquisitions are ineligible).

If the player rejects a qualifying offer, the team will receive a draft pick as follows:
Team salary under $100 that season – Pick after 1st round
Team salary $101-$150 that season – Pick after 2nd round
Team salary $150-$200 that season – Pick after 3rd round
Team Salary $200+ that season – Pick after 4th round

NOV. 17: NON-TENDER DEADLINE
Players on the 40-man roster who have fewer than six years of major league service time must be tendered a contract each offseason by the non-tender deadline. This includes players who are due raises via arbitration. If a club non-tenders a player, he immediately becomes a free agent.
(will not happen inaugural season)

DEC. 4-7: MLB WINTER MEETINGS
The Winter Meetings will take place Dec. 4-7.
After the GM Meetings in November get the framework started for offseason moves, a whole bunch of them usually go down at the Winter Meetings.

DEC. 5: MLB DRAFT LOTTERY

DEC. 15-30: International FA bidding

FEBRUARY: ARBITRATION FIGURES EXCHANGED
Once a player is offered arbitration, the team and that player's agent have a decent amount of time to come to terms on a new contract. If that doesn't happen, both sides submit salary proposals and the player's salary is determined by independent arbitrators during hearings.

**NOTE: This will not happen for the first season of this league.**

MID-FEBRUARY: SPRING TRAINING BEGINS

𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬:

I. PROSPECTS
You will have as many players as you'd like from your real life organization in a Google Doc or PDF which will be posted in the links section of this league. You will be able to trade them at any time. You will be given the prospects listed on FanGraphs for your team – if you would like prospects that are not on this list, they can be added to your prospects by request.

You can choose to "bring up" a player from Double A or Triple A during the season when you deem necessary. They will be created according to their real life stats with a minimum of 100 AB, 25 IP for a reliever, and 50 IP for a starter.

Their stats will be modified as follows:
Triple A: –.175 OPS (–.04 avg, –.05 OBP, –.085 SLG), +0.2 WHIP (+0.9 H/9, +0.9 BB/9, –1.5 SO/9)
Double A: –.225 OPS (–.055 avg, –.065 OBP, –.105 SLG), +0.35 WHIP (+1.6 H/9, +1.6 BB/9, –2.4 SO/9)

II. POSITION CHANGES AND STAT BOOSTS
You have unlimited position changes each offseason.
You can change secondary position to the following if their primary position is:
C –> 1B
1B –> LF, RF
2B –> LF, RF
SS –> LF, CF, RF
3B –> 2B, 1B, LF, RF
OF –> 1B
RP –> SP - Stats will go up a little across the board - reasoning for this switch must be sent to the commish, perhaps either the pitcher is young, or the player has had moderate success in the bullpen and there is a hole in the team's rotation - but DO NOT go asking to switch a star reliever like Josh Hader to a starter, since that would have zero chance of happening in real life. For prospects, only RPs that are 50 rank or less can be switched to a starter.
SP –> RP - Stats will go down a little across the board - Same as above, reasoning for the switch must be sent to the commish, perhaps the player is getting older, or the player hasn't had much success at starter, and again, don't ask to switch a guy like Tyler Glasnow to the bullpen.

You can also switch a player's primary position with their secondary position. Ex: 2B/1B to 1B/2B
If a player's position is SS/INF, you can switch it to either 3B/INF or 2B/INF and the same goes for 2B/INF and 3B/INF - you cannot switch to SS or 3B if a player is older than 28.
You can change a position not based on the guidelines above if it is based on real life.

Stat Boosts:
You can boost two players per offseason. You can boost the following:
- dWAR by .2 (max increase to 1.0)
- FLD by .01 (max increase to .990)
- Speed by 1 (max increase to 9)
- Endurance by 4
- Stamina by 5
- Fire by 2

III. INTERNATIONAL FA BIDDING
Each team will begin the league with $40m to bid on 2-3 International Free Agents each year. Once you spend this money, you will get back 3m each year until you reach the max of $40m.

IV. CONTRACTS
The moment a player logs his first MLB at bat, he will be placed on a pre-arbitration contract, $1/3 years. Once this is up, there are 3 years of arbitration. This will be negotiated between player and commish. You are also welcome to sign long term extensions at any time.

V. INJURIES/AB/IP
Another catch to this league: If a player has under 300 AB, 100 IP for a SP or 40 IP for a RP, they can only play that amount of AB/IP that season in real life. This is to emulate injuries and to not allow monsters like Matt Carpenter to dominate with 60 HR. I will check consistently throughout the season to make sure this is not being broken. That being said, there will be no penalty.....but once I catch you I will remove the player from your roster. So it is your choice when to play the player throughout the season.

VI. AWARDS
All real life MLB awards (https://www.mlb.com/awards) will be given and voted on by not only this league, but link to voting survey will be posted in the all-PC chat.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
