League Rules

Welcome to the Big Bash League.
Commissioners: dniemerg

Teams have $100 Million Budgets.

You are allowed to have a max of 14 players under contract + 1 Franchise Player.
Teams are allowed to trade draft picks and offer cash. Any trade goes with the exception of trades where there is no obvious benefit to both teams.

EX-Franchise Players are not eligible to be tagged and treated as a prospect. They stay an F rating and must be signed or released at the end of the season.

Each team is allowed to nominate 1 player as a Franchise Player. This player will be tagged as a Franchise player. The players age will be set to 20 and potential set to F and will be remain on the team until the owner decides to nominate a new Franchise player. Franchise players can only be changed during the off season. The Franchise player plays at no cost to the team. (a free player that sits outside the teams budget) Franchise Players cannot be traded. In order to trade them you must declare a new Franchise player in the off season. Then you can trade them.

Players under contract cannot be released without first paying out the remainder of their contract. Please advise the Commissioner if you intend to use this option to free up a roster spot. (HINT) If you swap a franchise player for a contracted player the contract is wiped for free.

Players peak at the age of 29 and begin to decline at the age of 34. Players can be signed for up to 5 years at a time.

All-Star Break is at the conclusion of GAME 81.
TRADE Deadline is at the conclusion of GAME 120.

Finish in the Post-season and get $10 boost in cash to your team's budget next year. Win the World Series and that cash boost will be permanently added to your Budget.

The Big Bash League is set in the Steroid era from 1990 to 2009. At the end of the 2009 season the league will reset and start over in the year 1990. All players on teams at the end of the 2009 season will be lost in the league restart.

Take advantage of your 10 minor league slots and fill them with young players. Being in the minors has the benefit of the player progressing (improving) each year without having to have 100 AB's or 20 IP's. Stock up on some good young talent in your minor leagues and you will have good players coming up year after year to feed to your team. It will keep your Dynasty from running out of steam!

If a team doesn't use all of their budget for a year then the remaining budget will be added to the following years budget effectively allowing teams to save for the future. Owners should think of their budget as their yearly income and any money they save from the previous year must be spent carefully so they don't find themselves over budget for the next season.

In the event a team goes over their budget the Commissioner will give that team 1 week to bring the team back under budget. During that week the owner should organise a trade or make a deal with other teams to remedy the situation. If, after that week, the team is still in breech of the salary cap then they will be penalised by losing their number 1 draft pick for the following season AND the Commissioner will decide which player or players will be removed from the team and auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Teams are allowed to trade cash, draft picks and players freely. Any trades or actions by a Manager or Mangers deemed questionable will be reviewed by the Commissioner. In the event the issue involves the Commissioner, then the Co-Commissioner will make the decision.

The signing of free agents will be based on first come, first served. Be careful not to go over your Max Roster size. Move players to your minor league system to store depth on your team. Teams that are over their Max Roster size will be given a warning to remedy. Repeated offences will result in a 5MIL Fine.

The Prospect System:
Every rookie is eligible for a Prospect Tag. This gives each prospect a development period to pan out into a quality player that a) you would like to keep or b) not worth the time and dropped. Players may be on a Prospect tag until the age of 24. So, a Prospect signed at 18 years of age can have a 7 years with the Prospect Tag and a player signed at 24 can only have 1 year of the Prospect Tag. When a Prospect turns the age of 25 the owner must negotiate with the Prospect and promote him to the Major league roster or release him to free agency. To promote a Prospect to the Major League Roster you must notify the Commissioner to remove the Prospect Tag so that you can negotiate a big league contract, sign the player and move him to your Active Roster. A player that has the Prospect Tag removed and promoted to the Majors can also have the option signing him at $2/4 years with a $2 yearly increase as a club control contract, however, after the 4 years he is released to free agency.

You can request any player on your active roster to be demoted to a Prospect tag and moved to your minor league roster as long as the player is 24 years of age or younger, and has not played in the Majors and you have room on your minor league roster. You may also move any active roster player to the minor leagues, but they will not be granted a Prospect tag and the owner will continue to pay their current contract price.

At the end of each season limited Free Agency Auction will be run. The top 10 players will be offered up for teams to bid on.
This is a signing bonus auction in that your bid is a signing bonus. You will still need to actually sign the player to a PC contract to keep them.

After Free Agency, 40 Rookies will be dumped into the Free Agency Pool. Then a 10 Round Draft will run.

At each All Star Break a Japanese/Korean Player will be available for auction in the Chat Box. The Auction will run for a 24 hour period. Owners are bidding for the rights to negotiate with the player. The team that wins the rights will have the player placed on their roster. It is then up to the owner to negotiate a contract with the player to keep them or at the end of the season the player will go to the Free Agent Pool.

Double Progression and Player Development:
In order to maximise prospects and their use, the league offers double progression. Some Prospects will start with very weak stats, stats that would be a result if they were put in the major league at that moment. Double progression is used to make them better as they continue to age and develop as they would in the minor leagues. There are certain eligibility rules as well:
-Must be age 24 or younger
-Must be in minor leagues, and have a Prospect Tag.

Any players who fits within the eligibility rules will have double progression. First progression will happen during the all-star break; at this progression, they will obviously not be aged and will be given the first progression. The second progression will happen with every other progression, like normal at the end of the season.

This is where the ?player development? part takes place. Teams must decide if they should keep their prospect in the minor leagues to stay eligible for double progression, or call him up to the major leagues because he could be an impact player at that current time. With the right player development, a team could turn an average prospect into an impact bat, while with the wrong development they could turn an all-star prospect into just an average ball player. This makes rebuilding a little more fun. POTENTIAL IS USED WITH PROSPECTS! KEEP THIS IN MIND!

Player Development is vital, and there may be some prospects that you think would develop nicely with a little push. Or maybe you just want to keep improving that stud prospect so he becomes a total star. Up to you, but below are the options that involve developing players.

Team's can also select to improve the "Potential" rating of a prospect to the next potential rating. F to U, U to C, C to A, and A to S. The cost to upgrade a potential rating is: 5 Million.

During normal seasons, In the event of a tie for a division winner there will be a 1 game playoff. Homefield will be awarded to the team with the best run differential. Wild Card Playoffs will be a 3 game series for Round 1. Rounds 2,3 and 4 will be best of 5 games and the World Series will be a best of 7 series. A Day off will be granted at the start of series 2,3, 4 and the World Series for travelling between cities.

Ties for records and any other issues will be broken by run differential. This includes draft order.

Bottom Team Stat Boost:
Every season, after the World Series, the bottom 8 teams based on the seasons record will be eligible for a stat boost on one of their hitters and one of their pitchers. (Total of 2 players) Any of those teams can purchase a second stat boost (for one of those players or a third player) for $5 Million. If there is a tie for the 8th team then run differential will be used to tie break. Any player on your team is eligible!

Teams can choose from 1 of the following STAT Boosts.

Hitters:
Speed (more SB and 3B)
Power (more HR and 2B)
Average (more H and BBs)
Finesse (less K's, better DWAR and more EN)

Pitchers:
Power (more K's)
Control (less BB's)
Movement (less H's)
Endurance (more stamina)

Starting pitching rotations will be 5 man.

Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
