Offseason S29/30 Retiree Standouts

As another year passes, another class of longtime quality GBF players admit to themselves that it’s time to hang up the spikes. Some hung around too long, while others were still starting as recently as a month ago. However, the one aspect they all share between them is that Father Time waits for no man, and he remains undefeated. Though none of these men will reach the ultimate height of the Global Federation HOF, they still produced for their owners, cities, and fanbases for years and years, so it’s only right that we shine a light on them. Here are some of the most notable names in this year’s retirement class.


—1B Tyler Payne (MVP)
-16 year career and 2126 games. 2158 hits, 328 HR, 442 doubles, 1086 RBI, 1834 K’s, and -248 hits saved. Career line of .288/.341/.481 (.825 OPS). 2x Silver Slugger, 1x MVP (S20), and 1x Batting Title (S20). Found the bulk of his success in his decade with the Rangers to start his career. Drafted in the 1st round of the S13 draft, he was in the bigs by S14. In S20 he exploded and took home MVP honors. He found playing time after the Rangers with 3 years in Philly and 3 years in Seattle, where he produced a high .700’s OPS for the majority of his post-Texas time. Because of how great his bat was, he found his way into the lineup… but the led to many years of opportunity to give up hits in the field. He ends his career as one of the worst defenders of all-time (possibly THE worst, pending a historical deep dive).

—SP Graeme Stinson (CYA)
-15 years and 490 games. 2605 innings, 155-189 record, 1.23 WHIP, 4.48 ERA/3.87 FIP. 2x No-Hitters, won 2 World Series (S18 SEA & S26 Cubs), and the Season 20 Cy Young Award winner with the Nats. Stinson’s career was mostly that of a backend rotation member, but had a one year peak that earned him some hardware (2.56 ERA, 228 innings, and a 0.80 WHIP). His first 5 years were with the Libs from S13-S17, before he got traded to Seattle where he spent 2 pretty good years and won a ring. Coming off those solid years with the Supersonics, the Nationals decided to go all in on him in free agency. They signed him to a fat 6 year deal that resulted in an immediate CYA, and then pretty much 5 years of garbage after that (with an exception for S22 in limited innings). Joined the Cubs in Season 26, won his 2nd ring, then retired in Chicago after Season 27.

—CF Enrique Bradfield Jr:
-18 year career and 2394 games. 2022 hits, 354 doubles, 217 HR, 1020 runs, 554 hits saved. 10 years with the Orioles, 5 with the Yanks, and 3 with the Capitales to end his career.

—SS Oneil Cruz:
-16 year career and 2082 games. 1734 hits, 583 doubles, 100 triples, 192 HR, 850 hits saved with a .993 FLD%. Career line of .229/.294/.408 (.702 OPS). A journeyman that brought value everywhere he went. Started career with 4 years in Oakland where he established himself as a dynamic hitter and fielder, before getting flipped to Detroit at the start of Season 18. He spent 3 years there, then bounced between the Giants, Libs, and Marlins. Was a starter for pretty much his entire career, and retires as one of the best defenders in league history.

—1B Jed Bradley
-15 year career and 1922 games. 1909 hits, 392 doubles, 323 HR, 1021 RBI, 122 hits saved and .998 FLD%. Career line of .257/.325/.456 (.781 OPS). 2x Silver Slugger and key piece of WS winning DBacks team in S19. A very solid career, the majority of which was spent between 2 division rivals: The Diamondbacks (who drafted & developed him) for his first 7 years from S13-S19, and then left in free agency to Anaheim on a 7 year deal that paid off well for the Angels, and even had JB as an MVP finalist in his first season there. He finished his playing days in Season 27 as a wire pickup for Quebec, where he struggled as a placeholder on a rebuilding team.

—RP JJ Goss
-19 year career and 1222 games. 1729 innings, 89-89 record, 3.83 ERA/3.84 FIP, 1.15 WHIP. S10-S29. Played with 7 different teams and his biggest stint came while playing 8 years with the Angels. Also spent 5 years in St. Louis where he broke out as a reliable 8th-inning option.

—RP Clayton Chatham
-16 year career and 1043 games. 4.00 ERA in 1240 innings. Won the Season 13 Rookie of the Year with the Diamondbacks.

—RP Patrick Merkling
-16 year career and 1277 games. 3.78 ERA in 1440 innings. 97-56 record. Won 2 World Series, both with Arizona in S19 and S21. Was mostly good everywhere he went: PAP, CLE, ARI, COL, and SEA from S12-S28.

—RP Gavin Williams
-Season 20 RPoY with Tigers

—SP Luke Chevalier
-14 year career and 451 games. 2494 innings, 132-174 record, 4.10 ERA/3.88 FIP, 2331 K’s (8.4 K/9). Flashed ace potential early career in Miami, but settled into a solid #3 for the majority of his career with Marlins, DBacks, Cardinals, and Pirates. S14-S28.

—SP Jesse Stinnett
-14 year career and 439 games. 2368 innings, 137-138 record, 4.23 ERA/4.03 FIP, 1.25 WHIP, and 1759 K’s (6.7 K/9). 7 years with LAA, 3 with TOR, 1 with ARI, and 3 with PIT.
