Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
@jaykuntz18 i would not mind that matchup, honestly anyone but the dodgers. kind of tired of them but they bring the most star power to the table
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
It's been longer than that , no back to backs since Yanks won 3 from 1998 - 2000 . Would love to see Mariners take on the Brewers . The original Seattle team vs the replacements .
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Mariners. Family in Seattle. Also they are the only team left in the playoffs that have never been there.
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
what a crazy play that turned in to a double play!! never seen anything like that!!
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Almost a Grand Slam, almost a catch, Teo should have tagged up the moment it hit the guy's glove and scored, but he stood there like a dumb ass and when he woke up, it was too late to score. Unbelievable. Despite everything, including Roki melting down, the Dodgers hold on for the win. Snell pitched as well as anyone I've ever seen in a playoff game not named Koufax. I wonder if Doc considered letting him go out there in the 9th......
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Just wondering , why wasn't it a salami ? The ball went off his glove and hit above the line , is it the ground rules for that park because it doesn't seem any diff than when Canseco had the ball bounce off his head and over the wall. One thing I am sure of is that after 50 seasons ,the M's are sooo close , but that line about horseshoes ,hand grenades and drive in movies comes to mind lol !!
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I wondered about that, since no one mentioned it on the broadcast, I figured the yellow line wasn't a HR. He almost tipped it over the fence.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Canseco’s head ball went completely over the wall, this one obviously didn’t go over, so they aren’t the same. Even with Teo going back to 3rd again, still seems crazy he didn’t score. An impossible situation for the runners at 1st and 2nd, but he should have scored.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I bet if we all looked up the ground rules at all 30 stadiums we would find some crazy rules , gotta love post season ball , it's the little things that become bigger things that get lost in reg season games.
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Muncy hit another one to almost exactly the same spot last night - but he hit it a little bit further for a HR. I thought for a minute that Frelick had caught it.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
The Mariners are blowing it - they now have to return to Toronto, and if they don't win tonight, facing elimination. I thought their superior pitching would prevail - instead two retreads, Bieber and Scherzer, pushed. I was thinking I'd rather as a Dodger fan (if they advance) face Toronto - now I'm not sure.
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I look at it like this , there are 26 MLB teams who wish they were in the M's or Brewers position . Either way I don't like the thought of the Dodgers getting 3 or 4 days of rest before the World Series .
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
i know managers manage differently in the playoffs, but it seems pretty crazy to pull your starter in the 5'th with 0 runs given up!! they just do not allow a guy to work, then hope 5-6 relievers all pitch well
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
huge grand slam!! toronto had so many chances to extend the lead but came up empty
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Yes - 1st pitcher to hit a leadoff HR in the post season and, after his 469 ft blast in the 4th, he is the 1st pitcher to hit multiple HR's in a post season game. And he's throwing a shutout after 5 innings. I don't think there's anything that he could do on a baseball field that would surprise me anymore. 😲😲😲😎😎😎
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
@sheikyerboudi amazing performance, the homer out of the stadium was impressive!!
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Jeez - he just hit his 3rd of the game !! Six shutout innings with 10 strikeouts - and 3 HR's .
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I am not a Dodger fan at all. That being said at 62 yrs old Ohtani is the best player I have seen. Ever.
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Rooting for the Jays
But the manager went above and beyound beeing a buffoon in this series, Trying to reinvent the game at the wrong moment.
Yesterday, to protect the lead, instead of using his closer and set up man for the 8th and 9th,he decided to go with a below average lefty mop up men (Little) to face the hearth of the lineup, since in his mind that pitcher was difficult to elevate the ball against.
Cal Raleigh found a way to elevate the ball !
Every analyst on Canadian TV send coach Schneider through the washing machine.
We all found it funny when Scherzer snapped on the mound, but it was symptomatic of a buffoon calling the shots for the Jays.
That series could of been over if not for very bad pitching management by the Jays.

Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Rooting for Seattle vs Toronto - if Seattle wins, the series starts in L.A. Not that starting these series on the road has had a negative effect on the Dodgers.
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Unfortunately, coach Roberts ridiculising casual and majority of baseball fans including myself, thinking Dodgers are ruining baseball, made me wanted to puke. A little reserve and more class was the right medication there.
If you like it, then be it ! But I didn,t like that a person with such a standing made fun of the lack of parity in the game today.
Hope Roberts will understand the deeper effect of the next imminent work stoppage and why it is, instead of rubbing it in on majority (95%) of baseball fans who cares for the game !
And what baffles me, is how even with that much money spent, why the Dodgers arent able to be better that they actually are and still need to rely on players like Treinen, Kike Hernandez and Tommy Edman. They surely can afford better !
Ddgers modo is actually Conquer without risk and triumph without glory !
I used to love the Dodgers, but now, I just like Ohtani....

Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I hope this doesn’t sound like sour grapes, but without any kind of salary cap, MLB is certainly the least fair league of the major sports. In other sports you hear about teams signing guys for outrageous sums too, but then they have to fit everyone else in under the cap so there’s a trade-off between paying your best players big bucks and then sometimes suffering with less talent in other positions.
The Winnipeg Jets in the NHL have signed a few of their big name players over the past few years to pretty big contracts but for 3 or 4 of their best players there was a sense that they could have gone to Free Agency and made more money with other teams but they left some money on the table so that the team could afford to pay other good players too and they could have a competitive team and maybe challenge for a championship. No such sacrifices necessary in other sports, and not the same tough decisions for some teams who have almost unlimited cash to pay sooooo many stars and still have more for next year’s top FAs. Just seems like a no brainer to level the playing field with a cap, but MLB doesn’t seem interested. Just my two cents.

Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
@GusPC13 , while i agree with a salary cap in principle, what do you think is a fair number? how would you handle players that have already signed long term contracts? what would the floor be? you mentioned the NHL, they have a floor that a few teams still hang around, basically they take on contracts that teams do not want and end up getting draft compensation for not trying to get to the cap(carey price this year). i would think at least $200-$250 million would be needed with escalating salaries with minimum of $150 million? revenue sharing would need to be eliminated. so many teams do not even spend the extra money they get from "rich" teams. going to be very interesting next cba
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
@GusPC13 - MLB OWNERS are very interested in a salary cap - but there is a very strong Players Union that isn't - much stronger than any other Players Union in any other sport. And there's the problem. The Dodgers, Mets, Yankees and Phillies are all playing within the rules of the system that exists. Nobody complained about the Dodgers when the incompetent Frank McCourt owned the team - I guess it's just unfair that Guggenheim Baseball Management actually knows what they are doing.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Agree with all of the above. Not blaming the Dodgers or Yankees or anyone else. Those are the rules and everybody is playing within them. No easy answers, but I do think having a cap of some kind, although lots of details to work out, would help bring the potential of more parity a little closer. And at least guys like me wouldn’t be able to complain about it anymore. I’d have to find something else to nag about. 😁
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Well, there is a kind of penalty system for spend over a certain amount, and then that penalty money is given to the small market teams - who promptly pocket it and don't spend it on improving their teams. The Pirates and the A's are probably the worst at this.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Not sure where the players think the money is coming from next year and going forward. ESPN (Disney) won't be involved any more and I don't see any other major network ponying up big TV dollars.
With teams moving to selling an app that's 20 bucks a month instead on being on cable or local TV they will lose the more casual viewer.

Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
The Mariners and Jays are down to a one game series. This should be interesting as it is all hands on deck ball game.
I would like to see the Mariners advance to the fall classic. They have never been there.
It really doesn't matter who advances between the Mariners or the Jays, the Dodgers are going to be their worst nightmare. The Dodgers have already won play-off series against two of the best teams in MLB and have made short work of it, playing some of their best baseball all season.
We all know that anything can happen in a 7 game series. The Dodgers spent most of the season with make shift starting rotations and make shift line-ups due to injuries and a much disappointing bullpen. It is a little scary now, but Doc Roberts has figured out how to get things done.
Whatever team advance from the American League, does that team have enough in the tank to slow the Dodgers who seem to be firing on all cylinders.

Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I got one month of Sling for the baseball playoffs, Sling had an outage here in SoCal tonight and I couldn't watch game 7 - looks like the Dodgers are flying to Canada☹️☹️☹️
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Blame Canada !
To all the classy people in Seattle who booed Springer after he got beaned ball right on the knee cap couple of games ago. This one is for you !
Ohtani and the Montgomery Burns of baseball better be ready, The Jays are going to shock the baseball world !

Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Just to add to what @DukeBlues said - the Dodgers started both the Philadelphia and Milwaukee series on the road and went 4-0, so starting the WS in Toronto isn't the disadvantage you might think it would be.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Saw an interesting stat on ESPN the other night , the last 4 instances where one team swept the championship series and the other went 7 , the team that went 7 won the World Series . Not this year , LA in 6 .
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Game 7 coming tomorrow night! What an amazing series this has been. One of my friends, who's not a fan of either team said, "baseball's fun again"
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Yamamoto is the only reason Dodgers are still in there, if Dodgers wins, he needs to be the MVP....
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Shout out to the Dodgers Justin Dean for knowing the ground rules , If he had grabbed the ball , It would have negated the ground rule double and Toronto likely ties the game.
Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
I had a series of heart attacks in the 9th inning - had to break out the defibrillator 😲😲😲😎😎😎
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
As the not late and kind of great Wanz sang on the chorus of MacLemores hit Thrift Shop , this is efffin awesome !!!
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Best all time WS. I am ending on the wrong end of that WS. Looks like the Dodgers kept hitting a one outer on the river 5 times in a row....
Not scoring a run in the 8th,9th,10th,11th... despite playing great small ball all year, and then pitchers allowing a single run here and there... and Yamamoto cyborg performance. Spin that wheel once again.
What a sad sight Mattingly and Bichette at the end of the game..

Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
You won't see a better one in your life...maybe one as good, but not better. What a great place for baseball to be in, a fitting capstone to an amazing year
Re: Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Yamamoto is worth every penny they pay him. Take that MadBum !! Rojas, what can you say? Sometimes it takes an Al Weis or Bucky Dent to step up and be the hero. Most innings played in a WS and Will Smith caught every one of them, and hit the GW HR. Also, Vlad Guerrero is worth every penny he's getting !! Absolutely a barn burner of a series. MLB should be really proud - now don't have a lockout you idiots !!

Re: Who is Everyone Rooting For?
Yamamoto showed true grit and is an iron man. Like the Sheik mentioned, he is worth every penny the Dodgers spent on him. Lots of hero's in the series for the Dodgers, especially the Dodgers pen. What a job they did.
Let talk Jays. How about Ernie Clement, who set a single-postseason record with 30 hits and ran his postseason hitting streak up to 13. Only a pronormal catch by the Dodgers Pages took his 31st hit away and possibly a win for the Jays. If you saw the look on Clements face after the catch, I'm sure he was thinking, "How in the hell did they catch that!" Addison Barger contributed 22 hits of his own and Daulton Varsho and his golden glove in center field.
Vlad Jr. and Bichette are two of the toughest outs in the Jays line-up. I held my breath every time those guys came up. Geo. Springer had 8 hits and missed games 4 and 5 in LA. If you don't think that this series didn't build character in those young Jay's Players, think again. Just think how much better they are going to be next season.
I do feel that the two best teams were in the fall classic and you have not heard the last of the Blue Jays. I look for them to find at least another starter in the off season.
