Nice return
In 1997 , Paul Allen paid 197 mil for the Seahawks . His estate is ready to finalize a eal to sell them for 9.6 BILLION DOLLARS ! SCOTT !!!
Re: Nice return
Arte Moreno may decide to sell the Angels due to City of Anaheim putting pressure on him regarding the Stadium property rights and naming of the franchise - they won't even consider renegotiating the deal with the Angels unless they change the name back to Anaheim Angels. If he does, the Angels were estimated last season as worth 2.7 Billion.
Re: Nice return
Wait they're still in Anaheim yet they changed their name to the LA Angels nearly 20 years ago? What the hell is the story there? Lol
(I actually never knew they were still in Anaheim till I saw sheik's post. I am neither an Angels fan nor an Angels hater so I never paid much attention to it. Plus at the time it happened I was like 10 years old lol)

Re: Re: Nice return
They were the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for about 10 years. Moreno wanted to capitalize on the larger Los Angeles media market so they adopted the Los Angeles name. After 2015 they dropped the "of Anaheim" so now are just the Los Angeles Angels. I'm not sure it's helped them capture the media market in LA.
Re: Nice return
They will always be the California Angels to me. That’s what I grew up with and that’s what I like. Change is usually bad. Now get off my lawn!
Re: Re: Nice return
Get off your lawn?! Seriously? You have lawns in Winnipeg? I thought you just had slabs of ice in front of houses there. I heard Manitobers ice fish in their yards year round.
Re: Nice return
Seeing ratchan's post made me remember something I find very funny from 2009
Chris Jericho, a professional wrestler currently under contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), was with WWE back in 2009
During a match in 2009 with WWE legend The Undertaker, someone in the crowd was heard shouting at Jericho from off screen to "go back to Toronto", to which Jericho gave the iconic reply "I'm from Winnipeg you idiot" 😂

Re: Re: Nice return
that's such a funny story about chris jericho!
that reminds me of a memory from somewhere around 1991 when i attended a WWF wrestling event in Los Angeles with Hulk Hogan! i actually saw an NFL player named Kevin Greene there who played for the Rams. i was so excited to see a real player in person and i humbly walked up to him said hello and just asked for a quick autograph since i'd never probably get another chance.
he straight up said no and kinda blew me off, i don't remember exactly what he said, but after being rejected like that i just automatically put my hand to my head where i was wearing a hat backwards and i turned it around and where he could see i was wearing a SF 49ers hat! he cursed me as i hastily retreated from that giant hulk hogan look alike, LOL

Re: Nice return
Yes, it's true, not only do the Angels NOT play in the city of Los Angeles, they don't even play in Los Angeles COUNTY !! They play in Anaheim, which is in Orange County. From 1961 - 65 the Angels played in Los Angeles. In 1961 they played in a minor league park, Wrigley Field and from 1962-65 they played in the newly opened Dodger Stadium while waiting for Anaheim Stadium to be completed in 1966. Anaheim Stadium is now the 4th oldest MLB ballpark, having been open 60 years.
Re: Re: Nice return
Makes about as much sense as in the 70's when Atlanta and New Orleans were in the NFC West .
Re: Nice return
No, it's even dumber than that, they are pretending they play in a city that they don't play in. And the City of Anaheim is sick of them, in essence, being embarrassed to be playing in Anaheim. As a Dodgers fan, I'm offended by them using "Los Angeles" in their team name. This is all on Arte Marino - the worst owner in baseball.
Re: Re: Nice return
that's what is so annoying is a team saying they are in a city that they are not even located in. they can be california or anaheim, or even orange county, but they are not located in los angeles so ever since they took that name i thought they were so stupid
Re: Re: Nice return
You mean like when the Dallas Cowboys are actually located in my hometown of Arlington?
Re: Nice return
At least the Mid-Cities region of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington is all in the same county. It's somewhat similar to Minneapolis/St. Paul in Minnesota.
Re: Re: Nice return
Without meaning to get too deep into the weeds, Fort Worth and Arlington are in Tarrant County, whereas Dallas is in Dallas County. However, if you include Grand Prairie, the cities are indeed all connected as one.
Re: Nice return
Wow - I just figured since they were so close together that they were in the same county. That's interesting. I think the Cowboys in Arlington thing was just about available land for the right price to build Jerry's palace. A lot of pro teams play outside their cities - the Jets for one and the Bears are discussing building a stadium in Hammond, Ind. The L.A Rams played in Anaheim Stadium from 1980-94 before moving to St. Louis. The NHL Anaheim Ducks play right across the freeway from the Big A and aren't ashamed of the city affiliation. I don't think there's as egregious example of using a city name for personal gain as the Angels.
Re: Nice return
As a cowboys fan myself for the last 14 years, I've known about the Arlington location for a while
There IS one question that's always baffled me though...
Why the hell is a texas-based team in the NFC EAST?? 🤣

Re: Re: Nice return
The Cardinals used to be in the NFC East too - that was really unfair travel wise
Re: Re: Nice return
The Jets and the Giants are in New Jersey. Not NYC or even NY state.
And the Rays are in St Petersburg. Not Tampa.

Re: Nice return
And before the MLB realigned the divisions after the expansion in '93, the Cardinals were in the NL East and the Braves were in the NL West. At least the expansion that year led to the divisions actually making a lot more sense, especially nearly 20 years later when the Astros joined their fellow texas-based team Rangers in the AL West in 2013
