When I go to edit players I thought I would be able to increase their rating/ability by category. However, it just has "stats"....not sure how that works...is it a tool to increase a player's ability ? or just cosmetic stat ?

The stats are what the sim uses to determine sim results. There are no arbitrary categories for that purpose

Skooler is correct. This is a pure stats based sim. There are no ratings. Rank is a number in baseball used to let people know how good a players stats are compared to others in that league. But you can’t edit someone’s rank.
