Teams have one player at each age from 17 to 40. With progression, 40-year-olds are retired and new 17-year-olds are imported and drafted each season. Players at each age are of a specific position. For example, right now all 36-year-olds are first basemen and all 20-year-olds are starting pitchers. All 17-year-olds are relief pitchers, which means that before the first season (which will begin after all teams are claimed) teams will all be drafting a 17-year-old relief pitcher.

I hope I have not made it sound complicated. It is actually pretty simple. Each season, all teams lose one player of the same position through retirement and replace them with a player of the same position via a one-round draft.
