Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

What gets me with whistleblowers is the fact that they always come out after the fact. if it was so bad you would have said something then. we'll have to wait and see. Remember the Duke lacrosse team allegations? how many people out there remember that they were later found to be innocent.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

well this guy is coming out because the organization is trying to blame it all on him, like he was a bad guy and did it behind their backs, it sure seems that was NOT the case and he is being blackballed in the League, which makes NO SENSE because he said nothing UNTIL they tried to make him the bad guy and he couldn't find work again - most times loyalty like that would be rewarded, even IF he technically was cheating.

MLB always looked the other way because it was a safety issue, they didn't want guys getting beaned because the ball would slip out of the pitchers hand because it was too cold.

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

Yeah the headline was shocking but after I read it, not that big of a deal. Percentage mixture of pine tar vs rosin exceeding preferred values and yeah, no one seemed to mind and it goes back decades.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

sincity is right its a safety issue and mlb has always looked the other way as long as its not a ridiculous amount like the time michel pineda had a whole slab on his neck.

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

I thought it was a "Wow" because it explains , possibly, why Cole suddenly became so dominate. I always wonder about the cause of someone going next level.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

1996 Brady Anderson is a prime example of that. 50 homer season and had never topped 30 before and never did it again.

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

Brady Anderson was Steroids though

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

Iknow but kinda makes you wonder what he was on and why he never came close again. The sad part of that era is that there may have been guys who did it legally but will be painted with the broad brush of roids.

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

He did the one year, got his contract and stopped using (probably due to health concerns). He had his money and didn't need the risk anymore.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

I think it should be allowed and regulated.

The Astros have some sort of secret sauce going on down there... pitchers go there and their spin rate increases. Trevor Bauer has alluded to this for awhile on his Twitter feed...

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

so no steroids to help your longevity but doctor the balls so you can pitch longer is a go. Ok got it.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

It normally doesn't help them pitch longer on its own, it's a substance that increases spin rate, which leads to your pitches being harder to hit, thus allowing fewer hits and less runs, which only then leads to pitching deeper in to games.

Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

you pitch longer because you pitch better. If you didn't use it and sucked, you wouldn't get the big contract. Cheating is cheating.

Re: Re: Saw this on ESPN site - wow !!

Agree with Jim. Cheating is cheating. It will always happen, but there is no place for it and should not be condoned or rewarded.

I just stumbled on this episode of HBO's Real Sports:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLQ..
That's the 2 minute preview of the Trevor Bauer interview. I don't subscribe to HBO, but I bet it's an interesting episode. Just the 2 minute preview is pretty interesting in light of the recent revelations. (Note that this was released in Feb 2020.)
