I've wondered this for some time...
I've wondered this for some time...
I've been playing PC for some time. I never remembered to ask this question until today.
What are the effects of changing the field size?
Smaller field, more home runs is easy to figure. Pitcher ERA's presumably rise as well.
What is then the effect when you make a field Big Disadvantage besides fewer HR's and more triples?
I am sure this topic has been hashed out long ago, but here I am bringing it back up. lol!

Re: I've wondered this for some time...
Also, more doubles, fewer singles, and more chances for errors and D+/- I believe.
Re: I've wondered this for some tim
My understanding is that, with Big Disadvantage, BA goes down and there's no effect on SB

From the top on the Team Details Page:
Park Effect Impacts
"Boosting" your park essentially makes it smaller. This means the chance of homers increases. Since players get a homer-boost, the end result is also a slight boost in overall batting average. Creating a "disadvantage" makes the park bigger. This makes it harder to hit homers, and generally lowers overall batting. But, it also slightly increases the chance for extra base hits, such as triples. Since most power comes from pulling the ball, you're essentially altering the left-field fence when you toggle the RH impact and the right-field fence when you toggle the LH impact. The sim doesn't know if a player has opposite-field power, so you don't have to take that into consideration.
Why would Park Effects have anything to do with SB or D +/- ? The answer is - it doesn't.

Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I agree with the park size not effecting SB, the base Paths are the same so no change warranted, however, larger Park size SHOULD cause more Negative DWar plays because an outfielder without a lot of range should allow more gappers that faster and positive DWar guys either corral or make a great play on, a bad OF should be exposed more in a big Disadvantage Park.
Re: Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I agree with SCM--more balls in play means more chances for D+/-
Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I would agree that the more balls in play, the more opportunity for D+/- to be used to resolve plays. And there are a lot more variables involved than just the park - but the park is one of them. However, with that being said, a player's rating is not effected by park effects - an OF, for example, with a +1 dWAR is always a +1 dWAR, regardless of park or running speed. I'm sure @gbacci could verify this. In fact, I'm pretty sure that every play doesn't have to be resolved by applying dWAR - there are randomly plays generated that are considered to be more difficult and are resolved by using player ratings.
Re: Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I would also agree that currently a +1 DWar gets the same odds to make positive Dwar result in all size parks, that could possibly be tweaked to reflect park size,
Also, you could have a 10 Speed on 1st with 2 outs and he can't score on a 2B Error? I would think he would at least have a chance if it's made by an OF, especially in a Big Disadvantage park

Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I'm not going to disagree with you, but I think you're getting a bit "Off in the Weeds" on some of this stuff. Even elaborate Sim games like Pursue the Pennant don't have that layer of realism. SOM has error and hit + error results that allow for runners to advance extra bases - but they are not park dependent. Considering the cost to users, and his level of commitment to providing the best sim engine possible, it's hard for me to nit-pick Guy about the lack of rare play results.
Re: Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I get that some things might be difficult to add and understand Guy's time restraints as well, these are generally wish list things not a high priority
Re: I've wondered this for some tim
I thought a larger field MIGHT equate to being caught stealing less, because the ball has to travel farther from the wall to the infield.
Re: I've wondered this for some tim
true, I guess I was actually thinking extra base hits, not stolen bases. Brain fart.
Would a guy who hit 35 doubles in a big boost field hit 50 in a big disadvantage.
Something to that effect.

Re: I've wondered this for some tim
@sheikyerboudi I went and read your reply in detail and it answered all of my questions.
This is why when I first got to PC, I emulated how you play. Sheik knows.
Thanks again!
