Re: Really?
Re: Really?
I talked to Smoltz, he broke a finger nail on his throwing hand before the game, but decided to "gut it out" and make the start.......
Re: Really?
@4bagger the game doesn't know he never had a game like that. It's working off aggregate stats, and the real measure is where does he land in totality. He seems to land right around 2.8 BB/9 each season. His real life BB/9 was 2.0. Considering he's going up against guys who walk a ton every single game, I would say the sim is very fairly favoring his ability to have control. In that game you noted, most of the guys he walked have decently impressive walk rates, including Henderson, Bonds, Ventura, McFarland, Belle. He ranks 14th historically in that league with his 2.8 BB/9 rate, and all other 13 (save Cal Eldred who is 0.1 higher) have a superior real-life BB/9.
I know one-off odd games are frustrating, but they are going to happen. And these leagues with all-time greats are going to further skew things. I would say if his BB/9 were any lower, people would start complaining that hitters are not walking enough for the game to be realistic.
