Although the American team did squeak into the playoff round through sheer luck and a favor from Italy, unfortunately their second place finish in Pool B means a quarterfinal date with the vaunted Pool A winner Canada, who will be heavily favored against their overmatched neighbors to the south. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Canada gave Team USA a good game at the World Baseball Classic.
So to recap the rivalry this year:
Baseball: USA 5, Canada 3
Olympic Men’s Hockey final: USA 2, Canada 1
Olympic Women’s Hockey final: USA 2, Canada 1
But the big news from Saturday was from the only sport that really matters, the only one that really counts - the Women’s World Curling Championship. In Round Robin play, Team Canada demolished Team USA 11-3, proving Canadian athletic superiority, and making the total aggregate score from all 2026 events:
Canada 16, USA 12.

agreed it was low, but that was a strike all night. swing the bat!! even if he walked, they still needed a hit. both teams had a couple calls that were borderline. i like the ABS hopefully it will be added eventually.

Reminded me of that old joke about why you would never hire Greg Maddux to paint your house because he only would paint the corners lol . My bracket was busted when Japan was eliminated , oh well , NCAA brackets here we come !!

@rlapierre, You are so right. That Ump had a wide plate and a low plate. I saw at least a dozen called strikes, both ways that were off the plate or low. If that was a regular season game a couple of players and a manager would have gotten tossed for going berserk. I was always for human umps as I am an old geezer. But I now like replay getting it right with limited challenges.
Now I want balls and strikes taken away from umps and being subjective. Let the bots do it. Forget the tapping the helmet for replay. Just get it right.

He might have been calling it that way all night - but he was calling it WRONG all night. With ABS he would have corrected after he was overruled a couple of times. I was watching a Dodgers spring game and the Umpire was overruled 3 times on the 1st two batters - he adjusted, and called a lot better game after that.
Should be a good game tonight, but I'd feel better if USA was starting a more experienced pitcher. Don't be surprised if Dave Roberts isn't the USA manager next time around. I like DeRosa as a commentator..........

@sheikyerboudi i assume ABS will be added, saw an article on why it is not in yet, basically it said they need measurements for all participants but would not have been done before the tournament. hopefully next time. i was at a redsox/twins game a couple weeks ago the ump was challenged 6 times, 5 overturned!! i was not that excited about it but after seeing it in action i like it. quick challenges makes it nice
