A team with the park on big boost left and right had 5 guys finish 2 through 6 in Cy Young was plus 300 runs and won 115 games. Both teams I had Greg Maddux on had him going double losses to wins and a 5.50 ERA halfway through the season despite his nearly 300 wins and low 3 career ERA.. Babe Ruth had a career low OPS on my only team with him. 10 speed players 50% or 60% in steals against crappy defense and crappy arm deadball catchers. If I change many of my players to better defensive seasons, they play better defense, and get the same or better offensive stats WITH THE BETTER DEFENSE but my pitchers somehow have career worst seasons this alleged game is a random assigning of numbers that has ZERO to do with baseball.

The sim is going to make a lot more sense if you play in leagues where the pool of the players looks a lot more like a real MLB season, but the problem is on PC very few leagues are actually like that. Most auto leagues are so crammed with amazing players it can feel like a dice roll. Yes some vets have clearly figured out patterns or strategies that usually work, and frankly even I haven’t figured out exactly what those are. But in auto leagues I just draft as many of the best players I can and try to sprinkle in a few good dwar guys at key positions and that will usually get me to the playoffs and occasionally win a title. Any sim game has the same problem when you’ve got all time greats on every team. I don’t have any great solutions because there are not a lot of leagues on here that play “normal” seasons but some custom leagues do. I sometimes suggest the Random Players auto leagues because those aren’t as loaded but I realize some people don’t really enjoy playing with random guys.

I've said this before and I'll say it again , this sim does not know the difference between a Greg Maddux or Greg Brady. Stats are the only thing it goes by. The sim doesn't care how great Maddux was during his career , it only looks at the numbers and a random result based on those numbers happens. The sim doesn't think that oh , this guy was a stud during his time , I have to give him the advantage. The players names are just placeholders . This game is free if you want and continues to improve but the non stop complaints make me laugh . It's like the card and dice games , sometimes you just get a lucky roll . I was in a league once where Duane Kuiper hit 25 homers and was the MVP . If you know about kuiper you know he had the worst hr pct in baseball history .

Bubbles, you are right every time you say it of course, but you are ignoring that depending on the league type and maddux year, he was likely ranked 85-100 in that league.

I can comment on that though, even without being able to see it. Cy Young formula (not created by pennantchase) favors wins, and if that team won 115 games, their pitchers had a lot of wins regardless of their ERA in their big boost stadium. I'd love to know the league.
Also I've never seen a 10 spd player at 50% steals. I dont think I've ever seen them under 80%.

Rank has no factor in the outcome of the results in this sim. I've had a rank 40 pitcher beat a rank 90 pitcher many times and vice versa . Rank is just another placeholder . The sim doesn't generate a result and then think oh this guy is ranked higher , I better change the result. I got a discount today at the word store on result lol

True but, I wouldn’t recommend someone totally ignore rank. It’s still a decent indicator of the better players in the league. Like Yankee said, we really have to see the example. Maddux certainly is not always a world beater in ATG leagues. The fact he won 300 games in his career is irrelevant, it’s a matter of how well does his best single season stack up against everyone else’s best single season.

Oh condescending bubbles, you know that's not what I meant. Obviously if their rank is high they have good STATS. And for pitchers especially rank is very reflecting of their stats in the league. No one said 90 rank has to beat 40 rank every time, just something you made up. The original poster went on a rant but had valid issues with the sim which would be helped by naming the league so Guy and others can offer real thoughts.

Safe to say after his other, now blocked, board rant...I don't think he's here to receive tips on how to figure the sim out or learn things from others...just here to p*ss and moan and wishing harm on others.
Sometimes the sim can be downright frustrating but in the end it's just a game...nothing to freak out over.

Actually, we have no real evidence that Guy isn’t a petty thief in real life. He runs an awesome, honest site here for all us baseball fanatics, but that doesn’t mean his hall closet isn’t filled from top to bottom with pez dispensers that he’s swiped from the corner store over the years.

I think what I am so massively confused about is he has stuck around for years now (he had a different user name originally) and currently has 30 teams! Why would anyone do anything they hate that much for so long??

Thats funny , I was thinking the same thing because the statements he makes are almost word for word as some of the famous malcontents we've had here. Do you remember about 10 years ago the guy that would post nothing but curse words and rant like Jack N in the shining ? I wonder if it's the same guy ?

Wouldn't surprise me tbh. I definitely remember seeing more than a few of such rants, and they DEFINITELY share some similarities to both the above rant as well as the other one from the closed thread

As someone who, over the course of the last decade and a half, has just over 71,000 lifetime auto league wins (and over 14,500 this year alone for that matter), as well as just shy of 34,000 custom league lifetime wins, I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with the above comment from Grumpy lol 😉
