Re: TWIB: Show me something interesting

Playoff Game: 1 RP walked 6 batters in a row. 28 total pitches. That's 4 strikes thrown across 6 batters. 0 outs recorded before or after the walks.

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

oh wow, that’s insane. The playoff pressure got to him. It reminds me of a guy used to play in the Cardinals, Rick Ankiel. He was a good young pitcher until one time he got a case of the yips and he never could recover and ended up switching to the outfield full-time

Re: TWIB: Show me something interesting

5 Homeruns by Barry Bonds!! he went 6/6 with 6 runs and 10 rbi, meanwhile his teammate Ward stole 5 bases on route to the team scoring 16 run even though 2 of the opposing teams pitchers were "on fire"!! this is the kind of box score i geek out on, lol

TWIB: Show me something interesting

here's something interesting. my #1 starter scherzer is ranked 100. i picked up a free agent sp to fill in for my #5 starter and that person is eddie smith ranked #10. so far smith is 5-0 and the team has won all 8 of his starts.
go figure?!?

i tried a similar experiment for a different team and picked up toad ramsey from free agency who is ranked #21 overall and they are currently 2-0 with a complete game and 2.87 era, lol

A record that will NEVER be broken Jesse Burkett 1890-1905 75) Career Home Runs 55 were Inside the Park Homers

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

September 2, 1975: Johnnie LeMaster’s first MLB at-bat was an inside-the-park home run. He hit it off HOF pitcher Don Sutton. Players hitting an inside-the-park home run in their first at-bat had happened only twice before in the major leagues, by Luke Stuart (St. Louis Browns, August 8, 1921) and Walter Mueller (Pirates, May 7,

In a 1980’s league, game 7 of the championship, there was a pitchers duel for the ages. Dwight Gooden pitched 10.1 scoreless innings. Mike Scott pitched 11 hitless and scoreless innings. Rollie Fingers picked up the win in the bottom of the 12th when Willie Randolph hit a game winning triple off of Dennis Eckersley. Final score: 1-0.

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

This is a TWIF note as it is happening in a football league. We just finished week 18 of sims. During those 18 weeks 36 punt return TD's and 19 kick return TD's. 55 total return TD's. The NFL averages between 1.5 and 3 punt return TD's/year and between 5 and 10 kick return TD's/season league wide.

Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

I looked up Hank Aaron’s Baseball Reference page and saw something I’d never realized: Aaron, who wore No. 44, led the NL in home runs four times. In three of those four years — 1957, 1963 and 1966 — he finished with 44 home runs. (He also finished with 44 in 1969, but Willie McCovey led the league that year with 45.)

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

His Topps rookie card had a reverse negative picture and the 44 was backward. Nowdays they do things like that on purpose to create more money which is why I don't buy new cards anymore . I saw last week a new release that has 3 cards in the box for 800 $ !!!

Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

Only a PC'er would understand.

4 games in a row facing on-fire SPs. All SPs with 118+ stamina. Mixed in with multiple players injured on my TOR team.

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

From the "They Don't Make Em Like They Used To" Dept:

Tom Seaver broke the 200 IP barrier 16x in his career...and never led the league a single time!! Wild. Met him in Cooperstown on induction weekend '07 for Ripken Jr. and Gwynn...Just class acts all around...Very fond memories with my dad...Have a great weekend all!

@ragingsol wow, that is really rough. I can’t recall ever seeing even back to back opposing pictures on fire, let alone four in a row. I noticed injuries too that’s just kicking you when you’re down. Thanks for sharing, that was interesting.

Re: TWIB: Show me something interesting

Matt Olson just passed Stan The man for 8th longest consecutive games played streak .. All he has to do to pass Cal is play 11 more straight season's !!

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

Last night , PCA of the Cubs became the 6th player in history to hit a leadoff and walkoff in the same game . He also became the 6th to have back to back 30-30 seasons . Can you say MVP contender ?

Re: TWIB: Show me something interesting

Still over a month left in the season bud. Plenty of time for the guy to have an epic collapse. Its happened plenty of times before, don't count your chickens before they hatch

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

Do you watch the game ? He's a contender . Cubs would not be where they are without him . If the Cubs can keep the random wild animal off the field they should be in good shape lol . What amazes me is that Mil has the best record in the game but aside from Turang and the Miz , not one of their reg plkayers has a war above 2.4

Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

He is actually the favorite according to Vegas right now. He is -115 and Ohtani is -105

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

Plus defense counts . What I've always wondered about Shohei is why don't they put him in the outfield ? With the injuries he keeps having pitching he would be more effective as a reliever . Imagine the possibilities in 9th and later innings where you could bring in an rp to his of position then play righty lefty matchups . He's an amazing athlete , is he really that much of a liability in the of ? Never has had a single chance in the majors there . He's only made 3 errors at pitcher so he can't be that bad . In Japan he made 1 error in 100 chances in the of .

TWIB: Show me something interesting

@Mrbubbles1967 just recently after seeing diaz implode, i was thinking why the dodgers don't use one of their extra SP's like Sheehan for example and convert to a closer a la Eric Gagne. This guy would absolutely dominate for one inning. he usually gets knocked around the 2nd or 3rd time through the opponents lineup after the have seen him, but for 1 inning he could be lights out. However, your point about Ohtani specifically playing OF/RP is even better as he doesn't have to leave the game. What an epic advantage they are wasting. Great idea, I am fully on board with that!

Re: TWIB: Show me something interesting

@Mrbubbles1967 idea of Ohtani playing the field then coming into to selectively pitch key situations, possibly multiple times in a game, should be explored by LA.

Not an LA fan at all but this seems like such an advantage to be exploited...and we know LA loves to exploit.

Re: Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

Just watched some video's on YT from when he was in Japan. From what I saw he had a cannon for an arm but according to bbref , he only had 100 chances in the of . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAJ..

Re: TWIB: Show me something interes

1st of all, the Dodgers using SP's as relievers in the playoffs - what a brilliant idea !! Oh wait, they did that - last year - and won the WS !! Don't be surprised if Sasaki, Sheehan and Wrobo are in the pen again in the post season, and if Diaz can't bounce back, Scott is having the season they paid him for last year. On the Ohtani thing - here's an article from MLB.com prior to last season's playoffs, but it's still relevant:
https://www.mlb.com/news/shohei-oht..

This just in - Diaz back on the I.L. with a "pain in the neck". Appropriate........
