Season 30 ALL-STAR GAME RECAP

ASG30 – Seattle

The BNBL stars gathered in rainy, wet, soggy, beautiful Seattle for the 30th annual All Star Classic. The rain delay lasted weeks and weeks, but was finally played the day after the regular season wrapped up.

Pennant Chase webmaster Guy Bacci himself was on hand at the airport to welcome the BNBL stars and owners to Seattle. He also threw out the first pitch, sang the national anthem, filled in for the first base umpire for an inning due to a bathroom emergency, sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th inning stretch, and swept up after we’d all gone home. Thanks Guy. Much appreciated.

The game was boring. After the weeks-long rain delay, only 7 fans were in attendance to watch the action, including Mr. Bacci. There was some good pitching, a few long balls, and some good defensive plays, but six out of the seven fans (including the webmaster) said that they wished they’d stayed home. The seventh fan wasn’t available for comment as we couldn’t rouse him from his deep sleep. It’s also possible that he passed away sometime during the later innings.

The final score was 3-1 in favor of the home team (SouthPacific). Hometown hero Ross Gload blasted a home run to open the scoring. Dick McAuliffe also went yard to give the home team a lead that wouldn’t relinquish. The big story of the game was the SouthPacific pitching. After two consecutive hits to start the game for the NorthEast-Atlantic, the visitors didn’t get another hit all game. Great pitching!

Ross Gload was named the ASG MVP. Congrats! He didn’t really deserve it, but the six fans who were still awake/alive at the end of the game insisted – and one of them was the owner of the Pilots!

With the victory, the South Pacific squad tied up the all-time All Star Series with the NorthEast-Atlantic – both teams now with 15 wins and 15 losses.

Next season, ASG31 will be hosted by Sheik and the Isotopes in Springfield.

After Season 20 in the BNBL, we held our first Hall of Fame vote, and the first group of players was added to the BNBL Hall of Fame. We've since had ballots after Seasons 21 through 27, and there will be another HOF ballot after every future season. Eligibility requirements - player must be retired. That's it. Oh, and they must also be less bad than many other BNBL players. (New players will be added to the ballot each season. If you think I've missed someone worthy of the honour, let me know, and he may be added to future ballots). To gain entry to the Hall, a player must receive a vote from at least 50% of the voters or finish in the top two (plus ties) among vote-getters on the ballot.

Rank Players for the Draft - All owners should rank players just in case they're not online for their turn for the Draft. Make sure you rank enough players for how many picks you have. And don't forget to update your rankings to include the new crop of 23-year old rookies who have just been added to Free Agency.

Two-Round Slow Draft - NOTE - We will be giving 6 hours for each pick in the first round, and 3 hours for each pick in the 2nd Round. Welcome to the BNBL (Bad News Bears League)

The BNBL is the league for mediocre players to play against their peers.
See how these "Average Joes" might have fared if they didn't have to face Nolan Ryan, Sandy Koufax, Lou Gehrig, or Babe Ruth.

Hitters have to have:
less than 1.000 combined AVG and OPS
but also have a .275 AVG or lower
and less than .800 OPS
(oh, and a maximum Speed of 7 as well)

Pitchers need to have a WHIP of 1.40 or higher.

The Basics:
16 Teams
8 teams make the playoffs (4 division winners and 4 Wild Cards)
(gives more teams a chance and keeps it interesting!)
162 Game Schedule
No progressions
Fatigue: On
5-Man Rotation
Minimum ABs/IPs: 50 ABs (no IP minimum)
Any season can be used that fits the minimum/maximum requirements (see above)
Players will retire after 13 seasons (there are exceptions to that - see Rules Page)
