League Rules
MLB Legendary: 1950 EditionMLB Legendary starts in the year 1950. All players from 1950, with the minimum stats for league qualification (40 minimum AB for hitters, 12 minimum IP for pitchers), will be a member of the team that they started with in 1950. In subsequent years, rookie players enter the league when they meet the minimum stat qualifications. These rookies start with the team they were with in real life. THIS IS NOT A CONTRACT LEAGUE, THERE ARE NO WAIVERS. Owners keep their players as long as they want. Progression will be "real life" so players will retire they year that they did in real life.
Teams:
The league starts in 1950 with the current teams. Teams will re-locate and be added through expansion as in real life. Each team will consist of a 25 man "Major League Roster" and there will be 5 spots available as a "Minor League Roster" during the season. (There may be more than 5 players in the minors during the offseason when rookies are placed on their respective teams before the "Offseason Draft" which is described below.
Players:
Real life players with real life stats starting their career with the team they did in real life. No free agency, no contracts, no waivers. The DH will be utilized.
Schedule:
I am going to try to develop a real life schedule every year. Should this be too cumbersome, a random schedule may be used. I will let owners know which will be utilized, when the time comes.
Slump buster:
Will be utilized.
In 1950 (the first year):
1. Owners are assigned to teams.
2. Teams with more than 30 players will be requested to trim to 30 players.
3. Cut players will become free agents, teams with less than 30 players will be messaged and a commissioner ran "special draft" will be executed to get all teams to 30 players.
4. Free agency will be turned on for the remaining players. First come, first serve. (A message will be sent out).
5. A 30 game spring training will commence.
6. Regular season will commence.
7. Trade deadline is game 120. There are no waivers in this league, this is a hard deadline. Trading will be allowed after the offseason draft is complete (details of the offseason draft are below). Each team is allowed 99 trades per season. I think this is plenty, if not, message me and we will see if we can find you another hobby, girlfriend, or something :)
8. The top teams from the NL and AL will meet in a best of 7 World Series.
Offseason (going into year 2 and all future years).
1. Rookie players are assigned to teams.
2. A message will be sent out and teams will be asked to set their 25 man "protected roster" (see offseason draft below).
3. Offseason draft:
To keep teams from stockpiling talent over time, there will be a "Rule 5" style draft. After the new rookies are placed on their respective team, each team will place their 25 protected players on their major league roster, the other players will be on their minor league roster. The players left unprotected will be part of the offseason draft and put into a player pool. Teams will select from these players in the reverse order of standings from the previous year (NOT A SNAKE DRAFT). The draft will be 3 rounds. Players not drafted will be returned to their previous team.
4. Free agency will be turned on for the remaining players. First come, first serve. (A message will be sent out).
5. A 30 game spring training will commence.
6. Regular season will commence.
7. Trade deadline will be set (for 154 game schedule the deadline will be around game 120, this will change as more games are added to the schedule).
8. The postseason schedule will commence. Playoff schedule and teams (wildcards, etc.) will match the current season rules.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
