League Rules

RULES

League basics:
This is a replay style league. This is a NON CONTRACT league. Once you have a player, you keep him as long as you would like or until he retires (at the time he did in real life). Real life progression will be used. Each team's roster will consist of a 25 man major league roster and a 3 man (maximum) minor league roster. (Minor league rosters might consist of more than three players during the offseason. By the deadline set by the commissioner, you must be down to three max.)

The key to success in a league such as this is to do your research and know your players. Baseball Reference and Baseball Almanac are great references. Baseball Almanac is more "literary", Baseball Reference is more "statistical". For all statistical data regarding players entering the league, stats, etc., Baseball Reference will be used. For schedules, Baseball Almanac will be used. Expansion teams will enter the league as they did in real life. Note: expansion teams will have the players that they drafted in their expansion drafts in real life, so know that you will lose these players if they are on your roster when the expansion team enters the league (remember do your research)

This is a keepers league. No contracts; standard yearly real life progression format with be applied. You can keep or trade players as you wish to build team and meet roster limits (25/3). Each year your team will acquire rookies that meet league minimums of 30 At Bats (Position players) and 12 Innings Pitched (SP/RP pitchers). Active ownership is a must! This is "Money Ball" at it's best!!! If you understand the applications of the now famous book...

===================================================================================

Players:

(Minimum qualification for this league is defined as 30 at bats for a position player and 12 innings pitched for a pitcher.)

Rookies entering the league will do so in the season they achieve minimal qualification, with the team they STARTED that season with in real life. This means that if a player, in their first year of eligibility for the league, played for more than one team in that season, he will be placed on the FIRST team he played with. This is done with the intent of keeping things historically accurate while giving league owners as much control of their team's original players as possible (not having to accept "real life" trades).

Any player already qualified into the league must still meet minimum qualification each subsequent season. If a player does not meet minimum qualification he will not be a part of the league for that season (think of it as a season long injury). In the next season that the player meets minimum qualification he will return to the league with the last team he played with previously. Teams are asked to utilized the "Memo" feature on the team home page to keep track of un-rostered players.

As said before, do your research. Please look a few years ahead to see what areas you are deficient in. Try to make sure you have some reserve infielders, outfielders, and especially a backup catcher each year. Also, it's REQUIRED to have at least ten pitchers on your major league roster in this league (sims will not even run with less than nine pitchers). It may be necessary for the commissioner to assign free agents to teams that are lacking players at certain positions depending on the pool of players available. This will be done only when absolutely necessary, will be done fairly, and please note it may not be a player you want.

A pitcher with less than 40 innings pitched will be a reliever and cannot be converted to a starter unless deemed necessary by the commissioner because of a limited player pool. Any starting pitcher can be converted to a reliever. Relief pitchers can be converted to a starter but only if the pitcher had 40 or more innings pitched and started at least one game in the current season in real life. Please send a message to the commissioner regarding any pitcher conversions. These conversions can be made at ANY TIME during the season!

The league is set up for a four man rotation. This will change to a five man rotation in the future (probably in the early 80's to try to emulate real life pitching rotations). Even with a four man rotation, it's not a bad idea to have a fifth starter available in the case of injuries, but a fifth starter is not necessary. (A fifth starter can also be put into your long reliever role in the bullpen).

Special note regarding Starting Pitchers:
The following minimum stamina ratings for starting pitchers in the league will be used:
Any starter with 5-9 CG will have a minimum stamina rating of 90.
Any starter with 10-14 CG will have a minimum stamina rating of 100.
Any starter with 15-19 CG will have a minimum stamina rating of 110.
Any starter with 20+ CG will have a minimum stamina rating of 120.

Injuries are a part of this league. Injuries that cause teams to fall below a minimum level needed to run sims will be cleared by the commissioner.

Injury Duration:

Batting 30 Days
Pitching 30 Days

Sims

3 SIMs in the early AM and 3 SIMs in the early PM (most days...)

Minimum players needed to sim
11-Batters
9-pitchers

===================================================================================

Rosters

Standard seasonal rosters will be Majors 25/Minors 3. At the start of each season after each team has picked up it's allotted rookie pool, rosters must be cut down to 25 players. This will enhance the Free Agent market and provide for a three round Supplemental Draft (as Free Agent availability allows!). After the draft and third spring training game Free Agency opens and players can be picked up first come first served...

This league will utilize the Designated Hitter (DH) in both the American and National Leagues!!!

Rosters will then be set at the 25/3 limit... Please keep in mind the SIM requirements above of 11-Batters and 9-Pitchers when setting seasonal rosters

===================================================================================

Fatigue and injurers will be a part of league play with "Spring Training" injuries carrying over to the regular season... same as real life!
===================================================================================

Stadium Effects will be set as close to real life by the Commissioner. Although there will be times when each owner will be given the opportunity to adjust this feature...
