League Rules
All Star “No Grace” League1. Basic Pitch: Upon entry, you pick a decade and a league; for example, Jim might choose the 1970s and the American League. As a result, no one else can choose the 1970s and the American League. But, you can choose the 1960s American League, or the 1980s American league, or even the 1970s National League. So, we have a max of 26 teams.
Once you select a decade and a league, you pick your starting year from the decade (if you pick the 1970s, the year must begin with 1-9-7-_.) Then, you pick 4 franchises from that season and from that league. (This limit is more for your benefit: how many imports can you handle in one season?) You cannot change your franchises, ever, once games start: choose wisely. You can choose an expansion franchise if you wish, but when you flip to 1901, you will have fewer import teams than other people.
Your varsity roster will contain 26 players. You can keep 24 more in the minors. There are no trades, no draft, no free agents, and no waiver claims.
2. How are players acquired?
First season USED? It will vary from team to team.
Minimum AB/IP? 100/35
Are duplicate players allowed? Yes and no. You will get all your players that meet the AB/IP minimums for your first season. After that, I will import your next season’s roster WITHOUT duplicates – if you had 120 players imported, with duplicates, you would lose your mind. However, I will allow up to 5 players per owner you can import as a duplicate each season.
Example: Say Kansas City is one of my 4 franchises, and I have 1970s AL. Come 1974(?) I should be getting George Brett, but if someone has the 1980s AL, technically, 1974 Brett could be a "duplicate", and I would not get him. Therefore, I can import Brett as 1 of the 5 “duplicates” I import over and above my ordinary imports that season. I want you to have the players you want, but I also want to keep all of us from losing our minds, too.
TO BE CLEAR, the 5 “duplicate” players must be players that would have been imported for you, during the present import season, if they did not exist on a different decade or league’s (i.e. AL vs. NL) roster. These are not players from back in time, or forward in time, and you cannot have two Mike Schmidts on your final roster. You can also use some of those 5 “duplicate” imports as stat changes, but you don’t get extra. 5 total. Period.
YOU MUST have your rosters in compliance when the games are supposed to start. I reserve the right to deal with non-compliance in any way I see fit, including booting you from the league. In other leagues, maybe I have to cut 3 players for you to fix things – I can live with that. Here, it might be 50 players, or more, that have to be cut, and to leave them on the roster and play games results in a competitive imbalance. This is not an inconsideration I will take lightly.
If you need a reasonable extension, let me know in advance of the deadline. I appreciate that things do come up, and I appreciate it when people address their responsibilities in a timely fashion.
3. Updating personnel:
Progressions: type: Unpredictable. 29 - 32 is the plateau. 33 begins regression.
After present day (whatever is the last year available when you get there), imports revert to 1901. If you pick 2020s, and 2025 as your start year, 1901 will be next season. However, if you pick 2010s and 2012, you might get to 2028 before you turn back to 1901.
Imports and Minimums? 100 AB, 35 IP
Stat changing? No. You do get 5 “duplicate” imports each season: you can use them to import a key player that exists on a different team, or as a stat change.
Trades? No trades, free agents, nor waivers.
4. Number of games, rotation size, injury length, and roster size: 162, 5-man rotation, 70/70 on injuries, 26/24
5. Playoffs: 2 leagues of 8 teams: Top 5 in each league make the playoffs. #1 seed gets a bye until the LCS.
Round 1: Best of 3: 5 @ 2, 4 @ 3: All games at 2 & 3
Round 2: Best of 5: 3 @ 2
Round 3: Best of 7: 2 @ 1
WORLD SERIES: Best of 7
Rules about ties for a playoff spot:
A wild card team never hosts a series against a non-wild card team.
If teams tie for a playoff spot:
⇒ If both teams would be “in”, use head to head record as a tiebreaker. Run differential is the 2nd tie-breaker.
⇒ If one is in, the other is out, 1 game playoff (@ head 2 head winner)
“Babe Ruth” Rule: There are players who excelled with the bat and on the mound. They can exist on your roster, as an exception to the “You can’t have 2 Mike Schmidts” rule. It works like this:
They exist as pitcher and as DH, so they take up 2 roster spots, and can both appear in the same game.
They must meet league minimums.
One can retire before the other.
You can stat change one without the other. If you stat change both in the same season, you are using 2 of your 5 “duplicate” imports.
MY BASIC EXPECTATIONS OF EACH OWNER:
⇒ Your commitment is season to season. When you join, you will be expected to actively run your team until the end of the season, which is when the regular season ends for non-playoff teams, or when your playoff team is eliminated. If you quit mid-season without my blessing, I will share this information with other commissioners.
⇒ Actively running your team means that you read messages once per day, meet all deadlines, and communicate any difficulties to the commissioner.
⇒ I will provide a minimum of 48 hours between a posting of a deadline, and the deadline. Ignorance of the deadline will not be an excuse for failing to meet the deadline.
⇒ If you will be away, and unable to get your messages, give the commissioner advance notice. Inactivity for ten (10) days, or repeated failure to meet deadlines, may result in your being booted from the league.
⇒ Every owner is expected to field a team (9 pitchers and 11 fielders) every game. Failure to do so, making the sims not run, results in a forfeit.
⇒ Read and be familiar with the rules immediately upon joining: it may affect your desire to be in the league, or your desire to pick a certain team.
Please keep all conversations clean
Please don't be rude to fellow owners
Please be active, if not active for 14 days you may be removed from the league

General rules:
Each offseason, you can switch a SP to RP, or a RP to a SP, but stamina will remain “as is.”. You can change it back the next offseason if you like, but no changes between first pitch and the last out of the World Series.
You can switch a player’s primary and secondary positions if they played 50% or more games THAT season at their secondary position, or at least 25% of their games for their career at their secondary position.
During an offseason, a player can be switched to the position they played most in their career, regardless of the requirements of General Rule #2.
You can switch a DH to his secondary position, as long as he has a fielding percentage.
Off season duties:
Empty the free agent pool
Unpredictable progression after world series. 29 - 32 plateau.
Imports: You get all the imports from the next season that are not already in the league (35 IP/100 AB minimum)
Owners can request up to 5 “duplicate” players to be added to their rosters. These can be used at stat changes instead, if you so desire. But there can only be one Mike Schmidt on your roster in any given season.
Cuts to a certain roster limit. 26/24 (or 26/50)
Opening Day
Elastic Clause: I reserve the right to create new rules as necessary to deal with problems as they arise.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
