League Rules
Mickey Mantle Perfection Baseball features teams drafting rosters based on real historical stats from the season being played. A keeper element is also included: following each season, owners may keep up to seven players, with the remainder of the roster made available for drafting based on the upcoming season stats. Consequently, owners can build around a pitching staff, a strong core "up the middle," power hitters, defensive prowess, etc. There are no contracts. "Keepers" remain on an owner's roster until traded, dropped, or reaching the end of a career. Since, probably, the most outstanding player to wear #7, the number of "perfection," was Mickey Mantle, this league is named in his honor. The number of teams and league schedule is based on the season played. While original geographic locations for teams have largely been kept, alternate team names--often reflecting some history of the franchise or its relocation--are used. Limited alterations may be made to the original league structures to suit sensibilities: i.e., in 1970, St. Louis and Chicago are assigned to the West Division, with Atlanta and Cincinnati in the East--with schedules swapped to retain the correct "unbalanced" historical schedule used in that season. Similarly, in 1970, Washington is replaced (albeit a few seasons early) by Dallas-Fort Worth--with DFW assigned to the West Division and Milwaukee to the East, and schedules swapped.
Some leagues use fictional player progression. To learn more about how players progress, check the Player Potential page.
